Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

What do you do on Thanksgiving?

Do you cook a traditional Turkey dinner?

I would love to but I have yet to meet a desi that knows how to throw down a decent turkey…:frowning:

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

My sister’s in-laws do the proper turkey dinner. All said and done with the grandparents, siblings, kids, grandkids and assorted aunts and uncles, they number about 40+ people.

They make three 16-20 pound turkeys with ALL the trimmings, stuffing (2-3 kinds), mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce (not from a can), vegetable casseroles, pumpkin pie.

Oh, and it’s finger-licking delicious (at least the turkey my sister makes and the mashed potatoes made from scratch and, OMG, the pumpkin pie).
I love visiting my sister for Thanksgiving

In our own home, nobody else likes turkey - they think it’s too “dry” - so no turkey for us :hinna:

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

If we are not invited by friends , we make turkey dinner with all the traditional trimmings and a couple of desi dishes too. Desi do not count a dawaat as real dawaat if at least two desi dishes are not served. :D

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

Usually its chicken as turkey is too big for just two of us. When we invite our relatives over for thanksgiving dinner, they being desi don't like turkey so again chicken saves the day.

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

I live in Canada, so our Turkey Day was about 3 weeks back. This year, my mom made a big turkey, me and my bhabi made mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing. It just so happened that day that my brother/bhabi/kids, cousin/husband/kids, other cousin/husband, all came to our house, so there was plenty of food for everyone. But usually we dont make turkey, but this year we decided at the last minute that we wanted one, and my mom called the halal store, and the guy just happened to have to 1 left, YAH FOR US!!!!

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

We used to do it, it is quite popular in canada, a lot of decent hahal meat shops take advance order for turkey now. Me love thanks giving, and missed it dearly this year :(

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

We do the whole turkey dinner (casserole, mash potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie etc) but we have chicken instead of turkey..........we have tried turkey a couple of times but our family doesn't like it

Re: Happy Turkey Dayyyyyyyyyy!

every year my aunt has the thanksgiving dinner and she makes it soo good that noone else in our family can make it even close to her. She makes a big turkey, casserole, mashed pototoes, chilli, sweet pototoes, corn bread and she gets the applie pies and ice cream from store. By the end of dinner we can't even move :) can't wait this year for thanksgiving!
