Something I love to do on the vernal equinox is to get an egg and stand it up on end on a hard surface. It takes a bit of patience but at the time of equinox, it actually does work and it never fails to amaze and amuse the boyz.

no...it actually works!!! It takes patience to get it balanced but I was always able to get it balanced around the time of equinox. And it can last for a couple to 4 hours before it topples over.
I was SOOOOOOOOOO mad at Verizon the first year that we had our boyz and I did this activity...I spent the time, got the egg balanced and we were all admiring and in awe. Verzie-saab walked in, saw the egg, said "hey thats pretty cool" and PICKED IT UP!!!!
Needless to say, it was beyond the time that we could stand it up again so that was THAT.
He knows better this time lol!!

That's so cool! Certainly something to try tomorrow morning. I wonder what causes it to balance only at the time of equinox?

Wow thats so interesting, so it will not balance at any other time but will at 7:04am???

Woo-hoo!!! I overslept and was so mad at myself!! But I decided to try anyway and even though we were 2 hours past the equinox, we got the egg to stand!! It took more of an effort but it worked!
Lets see how long it stands, I'll let you know
One the day of the vernal equinox and on the autumnal equinox, the earth is closest to the sun and this makes the force of gravity a tad stronger on those days.
