Re: Happy Independence day, PAKISTAN!!!
yes happy independence Pakistan. I am happy that the partition happened and in the end it was the right political decision by Jinnah
but to say we got Pakistan after many sacrifices is wrong. absolutely wrong. no one willingly sacrificed his life for Pakistan but it was forced murder of innocent people from both sides due to ineffective, callous and selfish leadership from muslim league, congress, and brits.
had the borders separated after proper study and under security forces 12 months later in June or july 1948 as originally planned, we would have seen less migration and far fewer murders. but a sudden change in plans and uninformed speedy border delineation by radcliff resulted in enforced migration of over 15 million people and close to 1 million murders.
and these were cold murders, not sacrifices. my family migrated from Amritsar and Jalandhar. they never wanted to migrate but they did not have a choice. they lost some family members too and for me, those poor souls got murdered against their will and they did not sacrifice their lives.
plus if we call these murders sacrifices, what about over 500K innocent hindus and sikhs which muslims killed mercilessly? were those also sacrifices? but hey, those innocent hindus and sikhs did not even want partition. so obviously they did not sacrifice their lives for any purpose. they were brutally m murdered by msulims…and so were poor mulims who had no clue why are they packing overnight and leaving their villages. they did not sign up for such partition. Jinnah and nehru signed up for this with Mountbatten.
so the responsibility of this massacre, not sacrifices, lies on Mohammad Ali Jinnah, top Congress leadership especially Nehru (but not gandhi) and callous Mountbatten and unprepared Radcliff and other brits.
Give it a rest, at least today of all days. It is the past, your theories or discussion is not going to change anything. What happened is truly horrible but the lives were going to be lost no matter how the partition took place due to hatred in the so called “peaceful” India where everyone got together so well before the partition. (sarcasm) Best thing to do is not let their struggles go to waste.
P.S. Sorry your family had to go through that.
