HST = Harmonized Saled Tax.

Before July 1, 2010, We Ontarions (from Ontario province) used to pay two taxes: GST of 5% and PST of 8%.

However, basic neccessities were exempted from PST such as electrcity bill, gas bill, hair cut, gasoline and etc.

Now Both PST and GST have been combined and we pay 13% tax on pretty much everything. Which actually increases the cost of purchase for us.

on July 1, i returned to Canada from NZ after 7 months of absence, first thing i noticed was the gas prices. It was like $1.03 a litre. i asked my bro on my way home from the airport why the prices were so high then he told me all about GST. so i thought to myself ... here, we go again! another cash grab by the Governments. we paid taxes on he dead people [funeral is taxable folks] and now we have to pay tax on top of the tax. gas prices already had like 45% tax and then another 13% were slapped on top of that...thats the way to go! well done McGuinty and Harper...u guys are worse than Mul'ooney [jis par la'nat bhei gaii ho] oops, i meant Mulroney.
