^^exactly. there is no imposition of beliefs in that greeting but then again not all non-muslims would know what it meant so maybe it would end up being offensive that way.

If someone is offended because they don’t know the meaning of a saying then you don’t want them calling you anyways

Forget saying it to non-muslims, when was the last time you said it all to a muslim…We usually say Salaanwalaikum.

thats worrisome though FG. In this religious program they were telling that one of these desi variations of salaam means death be upon you or something horrible like that

hmmm. IMO I think its better to wish someone something they understand, just a preference, nothing I would get offended over though.

Talking of voicemails, I have noticed especially with hispanics that their vm messages are recorded in Spanish! Now thats rude.

dont sent her a card or anything (that will just encourage future card exchanges)

next time if you run into her, just tell her hey thanks a lot for the greeting, i read the card and hey you know what, Chrisitanity is so similar to Islam, b/c Islam also says so and so (something related to the card)

tell her you will send her some Islamic material for her to explore

beat her at the game

So, I started receiving greeting cards. The ones from my company and vendors are very politically correct wishing me Happy Holidays. But others from friends are semi religious / semi holidayish. Now what really threw me off is a card I received from the mother of my daughter’s kindergarten friend. The card has “Jesus the Saviour” on the front. Inside it quotes a saying from the Bible and she writes very openly some religious greetings. Now she knows well what religion I am.

I honestly have no problem wishing someone a merry Christmas neither do I mind if someone wishes me the same in person, but for someone to pen it down and make it ONLY religious is a bit odd, especially in this day and age of political correctness.

OK, I am done. and by the way a very happy Eid and happy holidays to all!

On the same token, I've heard out going messages on Home or Cell phones of many muslims living in North America, that starts with Assalam-ulekeum.

Is that polite if a christian or hindu is calling them and gets that voice mail

It is polite, because Assalamo-Alaikum means "Peace be upon you"...DONE!
