I would like to wish all the Indian and Pakistani GS members a happy Holi day.
Why? Surely a stern Muslim like me has nothing to do with Holi and would see such activity as nonesense… right?
Well actually I have always been facsinated by the culture and customs of all peoples. I would like to think I am a very fair and game fellow and I admire these qualities in others too. Sure as a Muslim I am Biased towards my own faith… However I am intrigued by this Indian festival.
Today as we all know is Holi day and to celebrate it I have opened a thread for you all.
Heres a brief History of Holi coutersy of Holi festival.org and to be honest the details here are a lot better than the Wikipedia article. http://www.holifestival.org/
Well personally I admit I know very little of the Festival but an excuse for a colourfull riot is what everyone needs. :yahoo:
I am happy to fire my Schmieser fully automatic paintball gun at anyone who wishes to join me for a noble Paintball game. :yahoo:
Holi is no longer a traditional Hindu festival. People of all religions (including Muslims) play Holi in India. And as far as I know, there is no significance of any colour.
So it’s gotta be one of the most beautifull and colourfull expressions of Spring ever.
Mind you the Persian new Year of Noruz is where we get the word “Spring Clean” from becuase on the Persian New Year everyone in Persia would celebrate Spring with new colours too. :shoaby:
I played Holi today in basant Mela at my uniiiii for the first time in my life i saw how to play holi its really a colorful n nice festival i must say coz i really enjoyed alot while flying the kite as Basant Festival n played with colors as celebrating Holi as well !! :k:
Hmmm it’s night round here and I live out in the country so if it werent dark I might…
Heres some quick tips…
If you can find an open enough space then depending on your skill level try and get to some higher ground and maybe get a partner to help you.
If your skilled stand the kite up on it’s legs (if it’s an arrow shaped sports kite) or if it’s a traditional kite shape then place it flat with the tail facing away from you… if its a wide Kite then it dont matter how you place it so long as the hood is fairly spread.
Walk away back into the wind and the kite should lift off gently… if the wind is not strong enough as you walk away reles more string and maybe even break into a stumbling run… it should lift off now.
If that still fails have a friend hold the kite and run away from you as you stand with your back to the wind… the kite should rise now with enough momentum.
Once it’s in the air it’s best to keep moving up wind and let the kite drift ever higher release a little more string as it soars but dont let go or loose too much string.
Once your kits up you just need to control it and keep the tack windwards to bring it down either pull it back or firts step downwind and then let wind and gravity bring it down but give it good clearance.
