Re: Happy Diwali

Have you ever observed Diwali celebrations in Pakistan?

Re: Happy Diwali

^ No bro, have never seen any hindu around. My mamun used to tell me that he has studied with 1-2 hindus in his school in rural Sialkot.

Re: Happy Diwali

Karachi has a somewhat notable number of Hindus and therefore you would see Diwali celebrations there sometimes. Not on a large scale though.

Re: Happy Diwali

I have seen signs of some hindu doctors in Islamabad, could be Sindhi hindu doctors who might have moved there. Or there is a plaza, maybe City towers (in Lahore) which has quite a few Sikh shops. The first time I saw Sikhs there I nearly fainted.

One of the shop was

Re: Happy Diwali

Yes on a training in my previous company, I met Pakistani Hindus for the first time (all were from Sindh). That was an enlightening experience for me.

Re: Happy Diwali

Happy deewali

Re: Happy Diwali

Yes there are sizeable number of Hindus in Karachi who are celebrating day today. Our town in rural Sindh also got sizable population of Hindu and I observed them celebrating Diwali nearly as a Hindu family shares with us common wall. Its very similar to shab e barat BTW. same Halwa and same lightening of mud-lamps

Re: Happy Diwali

Happy Diwali!

We just put up our Diwali lantern and holiday lights in the patio. Plan to light plenty of diyas and draw a rangoli by the door this evening. And between that and work I hope to squeeze in some time to make mithai at home. Oh well..

Back in India we celebrated diwali together with my dad's side of the family. There used to be about 30 of us together - aunts, uncles cousins and their kids. Every ritual was done together, punctuated by huge meals in between.. it used to be super fun, like a 4-5 day wedding :)
My fav part of Diwali is bhaubeej where sisters pray for the well-being of their brothers (incl. cousins), and get ahem, gifts in return. There is also a day called padwaa where wives pray for ther husbands.. and surprise surprise.. get a gift from him ;) Hmm.. wonder what my hubby has got me this year..
