Is happiness purely a state of mind, or, as much as we dont want to admit, is it tied into our lifestyle and circumstances? I do think state of mind is a factor in ones happiness, but lifestyle does play a role as well. I know people who say as long as they have an internet connection and a car, they can adjust and live a full satisfied life anywhere, whereas others hate change. ![]()

Re: Happiness
There is no need to search for happiness or to create it. There is no need to undergo all kinds of outer experiences in order to feel it. On the contrary, everything has to be dropped in order to experience it :k:
Re: Happiness

Re: Happiness
are you in pakistan right now?
Re: Happiness
I think it depends.....
you're saying you cant be happy in pakistan......what if you are in pakistan going for a visit with a guy u love ? you'd be happy then right because ur with him and he makes u happy no matter where u r
Re: Happiness
I don't hate change, but i could not be happy anywhere.
I'm a very primitive person, without nature: forest, trees, grass, rivers, lake, mountains, animals , flowers, etc.... i am drying inside and becoming a dry plant, ready to break and die...
I know i can NOT be happy without a substantial amount of nature around me
Re: Happiness
why does happiness have to be relative to the things you have around you?
Re: Happiness
happiness is all around you if u could oonly sense it ( i think)
Re: Happiness
because environement plays a big role in the hormonal release in your brain, which in turn controls your mood, so your happiness.
For example it's a well known fact that people living up north have a higher risk of depression and alcoholism due to long winter nights and lack of sun.
Another reason which is closer to Sara intial question, is that people who surrounds us play a big role in our emotional state, thus hapiness.
Some of us feel it very depressive to be surrounded only by persons who spend time backbiting and nagging and who lack other kind of conversation.
You also have to be realistic about one person interest and favourite activities, a ski champion, may be really bored to live on a small tropical island where snow never fall, and mountains are a dream.
Re: Happiness
this philosophy is rather “buddhist”, for buddhist the lack of passion and desires is the solution to pain, sorrow, then the cause of everlasting happiness (and nirvana).
it’s kinda of really christian belief too: those who live in modesty, chastity, and poverty are most happy because they concentrate only on prayers and God blessings (nuns , monks), and liberate themselves from “evil” desires of this planet: lust, appetite and power.
These are rather extrem point of views, though it’s quite clear that the more you desire things you can’t have, the less happy you become!
One must strive to be happy of what he has and in the same time strive to chase his dreams and fullfill his needs.
There is a balance in anything, giving up life’s desires is as paralysing as drowing in passions and utopian dreams.
Re: Happiness
Happines comes to those who trust in it.
Re: Happiness
happiness is not purely a state of mind as it is influenced by people and environment, though we have some (not all
) self control on our hapiness.
hapiness is really depending on our lifestyle, BUT it depends on the person, the lifestyle that makes YOU happy is not the same as mine or as dutchpaki one!
You have to be assertive and not let others (especially parents) put you down by telling you they know better what kind of lifestyle suits you
. Parents are the best when it comes to depress teir teenagers because they believe they know best, but everyone has a mind of its own and what is right for you ONLY you know it and you learn it through your OWN experience .
Don’t let anyone impose on you a lifestyle that does not suit you, or you’ll be unhappy your whole life.
Re: Happiness
Happiness comes with a contend mind.. If u r after something... u wont be satisfied untill u get it... But then again once all ur goals r accomplished.. u might as well be pronounced dead.. .. Being a human.. its almost impossible to be contend at all times.. and even if ur biggest dreams comes true, u will always find something new to desire..(for example me on this forum..lolz) .. anywayz..
As for Happiness its a choice .. u can stay happy as long as u choose to stay happy... and if u dont... well the simplest things could make u upset..
Hahahaha .. The eternal Optimist!
Re: Happiness
...happiness seems to be loneliness and loneliness killed my world.
Re: Happiness
happiness is deep within us.... its also a mindset. we can choose to be happy. its easy to be stubborn abt something we dun like cuz we have a choices in life. we're so used to getting wat we want.
imagine ppl in 3rd world countries. how do they manage to be happy?
cuz they dun hav any other options in life and they learn to be happy with wat they have.
