Pakistan Engineering Delegation leaves for Hannover 2006

Friday April 21, 2006 (0116 PST)

ISLAMABAD: A 220-member strong Pakistan Engineering Trade delegation leaves for Germany tomorrow to participate in the Hannover Messe 2006.

More than 6,000 exhibitors from 75 countries are expected to display their engineering products and technologies. The delegation is headed by Mr. Jahangir Khan Tareen, Minister for Industries, Production & Special Initiatives and accompanied by Mr. Imtiaz A. Rastgar, CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB, and Mr. Nabeel Hashmi, Chairman, Organizing Committee of the Business Development Group (BDG).

More than 60 well-established companies in the engineering sector from all over Pakistan have registered as exhibitors and will participate officially at Hannover Messe 2006, the world’s largest exhibition of engineering manufactured goods and advanced technologies, scheduled to be held in the German industrial city from April 24.

The Pakistan delegation comprises of 220 personnel including exhibitors, delegates, academia and the media; and will be one of the largest professional engineering groups to venture at an international fair. Pakistan will be featured prominently in the Subcontracting, Power Transmission and Factory Automation halls.

Elaborate arrangements have been made at a grand Pakistan Pavilion that will house a business lounge, and also show a special multi-media presentation on the country and the engineering sector in particular. Jahangir Khan Tareen commenting on the participation of Pakistan at Hannover Messe 2006 said, “It is encouraging to see the increase in the number of Pakistani exhibitors this year, more than twice than last year. It shows how receptive our engineering sector has been to efforts being made by the government to facilitate their participation in international fairs. I am sure there are many more companies which deserve attention but this is just the second year of our official presence at Hannover, we have a long-term goal in mind.”

“Today Pakistan is seen in a different perspective in international markets, thanks to the success of second generation reforms introduced by the present government. The country’s GDP growth last year was 8.4 per cent, and with consistency of policies, the growth rate will be sustained in the next few years. All these macro economic indicators prove that Pakistan is ready to meet the challenges of international trade and commerce. I am sure our engineering sector will be able to achieve good results at the Hannover Messe 2006 and be part of the global supply chain.”

Imtiaz A. Rastgar, CEO-EDB who has been instrumental in creating new opportunities for the engineering sector in Pakistan, both here and abroad, said “We are just on a stepping stone as far as our participation is concerned, our exhibitors, though having quality goods to display, will have to prove their mettle beyond the requirement of the international buyer and show that Pakistan is a place where they can source quality engineering products at competitive prices.”

“Pakistan is abundantly blessed with a pool of talent in skills sets that can compete with the best in the world; all we have to do is to harness their talents and capabilities, and encourage them to produce manufactured goods that are in demand at international levels.” He added. Forty-six Pakistani exhibitors will be displaying their products in the Sub-Contracting Hall, eight companies in Power Transmission Hall and five in Factory Automation. A special directory giving details of all participating exhibitors and delegates, including an attractive ’Pakistani Delegate Bag’ and a give-away mini football have been produced and will be available for visitors to the Pakistani booths.

“The primary objective of Pakistan ’s participation at the fair will be the projection of Pakistan as an emerging engineering destination. More than 1000 sq. meters of exhibition space has been reserved for the Pakistan pavilion in three separate halls at the Fair grounds,” said Mr. Nabeel Hashmi, Chairman of the Business Development Group of the EDB (Engineering Development Board).

The Hannover Fair remains the world’s leading showcase for industrial technology with participation from more than 6,000 exhibitors from 75 countries from around the world. Each year the Hannover Exhibition Grounds become a global showcase for the trends, innovations and key technologies of tomorrow’s industrial world.-- Ali Umar RajokaPRO TO MinisterMinistry of Industries, Production and Special InitiativesA Block, Pak.
