Handshake

Why are newly arrived Indians very hesitant in handshaking?. Is it some cultural thing? I hardly see them shake hands with eachother. It’s not only confined to not shaking with non-indians.

PS. would it help if i carry a dollar bill in my right hand?

maybe cos they r used to doing the namaste thing with ther two hands together.

they dont do namaste either.

maybe they dont like u then.

i wud be ok with that but they dont shake hands with anybody unless u go first or kinda force them into it.

Mebbe cuz their hands are always busy elsewhere?

With Xtremes hugging thread and FG's shaking hands thread I have a question for the girls...

Do you girls feel comfortable hugging eachother? I'm fine as long as it is short and quick without any body contact (I hope you know what I mean). Anything besides that makes me feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Am I the only one?

FF, you are too sensitive.

But I like that. :D

FG that was for girls only. So what if I hijacked your thread and didn’t bother starting a new one :snooty: Doesn’t mean you respond.

I agree.

FG what do you mean newly arrived? If you mean what I think you do - perhaps they are getting used to their new surroundings. They might think they have to observe people who live here ----and then take any steps of their own.I suppose coming here is a major change ,and they might be afraid that its just not the 'thing' to do here?

I will take their Nameste anyday over their shaky heads.

FG, the ones who come from dorky towns like Patna or Vellupadnam are touch-shy. Be gentle. They''ll learn.

I don't feel uncomfortable hugging girls, but yeah it should be nice and short (except with my sis) In fact, I prefer giving a hug over the 3 kisses on the cheek.

3??? Just one is enough.

It all depends on who ur hugging, like with my mom, sisters, or CLOSE friends or cousins, we do hug but its not rele long cuz that would get awkward...with others it maybe a casual hug or the three kisses depending on who it is(usually with desis only) but the simple hello/hi/hey works most of the time too :D

FF, I think u need a hug so
