Hands straight / Hands clasped in prayer

Several years ago, I went for jummah prayers for a summer to a mosque where I would notice that most muslims would not clasp their right hand over their left wrist when praying and would instead lay their hands straight along their sides.

I later found out that this was the way of doing it in Maliki fiqh.

Can someone provide both the sources from Hadith & Sunnah backing the Maliki view, and also the sources opposinng the Maliki view (i.e the sources used by the Shafi, Hanbali and Hanafi fiqhs).

Do not disect religion like a mouse. Respect it. Too many doubts about what is the right way will only confuse you and others. Keep religion simple and easy. Dont make it a rocket science and scare people away. Older believers questioned alot and it was not liked, remember?

Ah..... was just wondering, was it on the same day when you tried on that sanitary towel?

wondering

Re: Hands straight / Hands clasped in prayer

Prayer is important enough that worrying abotu the details matter. I was raised to believe that when praying behind an imam, the imam's recital of Sura fatiha was sufficient and that those behind him did not have to do it too. But when I looked into the matter I found enough evidence to suggest that everyone must say Fatiha regardless of whether the imam is doing it or not to convince me.

Re: Hands straight / Hands clasped in prayer

Reciting Fatiha/reciting prayers is different to what you asked earlier. One of the names of Surah Fatiha is also Surah Salaat, no prayer is complete without this Surah.

What difference does it make if you put your right wrist on your left or your left on your right . Will ALLAH not accept your prayer? Prayers is a form of communication with ALLAH, it simply has to be done in a respectful way being humble and polite.

Re: Hands straight / Hands clasped in prayer

first…its not the maliki fiqh but the shia sect that prays in this way…
secondly it doesnt matter HOW you pray since everyone is praying to the same One God…
third i read it is according to sunnat of the prophet to pray this way and if u want hadith supporting it go to shiachat.com for answers…

Re: Hands straight / Hands clasped in prayer

Your are wrong. In the fiqh of Imam Malil ( rahimullah) it is better not to fold the hands at the waist but to hold the arms at the side. Shias have the same view.

Both these actions are Sunnah of the Prophet (saw).

Read it all from the link: http://www.masud.co.uk/ISLAM/misc/yadain.htm

Re: Hands straight / Hands clasped in prayer

You do or don’t, doesn’t matter…Intentions and prayers of the Imam are for the entire congregation…He makes a mistake, the congregation makes a mistake…Similarly, he recites, it goes for the entire Jama’at…
