Handing out CVs

Is it better to email them or go and hand them out yourself physically?? Not that i need to right now, just for future references…

Where do you live?

Re: Handing out CVs

UK. Edinburgh to be more specific

Re: Handing out CVs

what type of businesses are you approaching and what types of roles? anything more than a high street business you are better off sending it in.

Re: Handing out CVs

consultancy firms. Management consultancy to be more specific. Also, how long would you say is a good time to follow up after handing it in?? And would email or phone be more preferable??

Re: Handing out CVs

so consulting firms have webpages set up for applying for specific roles, use that. I dont know if there are real ways to followup unless they have made contact.

the better way to get into a consulting company is by personal contacts, so start asking your friends, professors, family if anyone knows anyone who is in that company. secondly, figure out industry groups and events the people would be and join, and lastly join industry groups on linked in. be active in discussions and then connect with recruiters for these companies..or at least interact with them. I know accenture has pages and groups set up just for recruitment.

Re: Handing out CVs

Thanks X2. I actually have friends working at BCG and Accenture. The problem with BCG is that they seem to be obsessed with oxford/cambridge graduates and seem to only recruit from there. I could be wrong but that was the impression i got when i was reading through some reviews about BCG

Re: Handing out CVs

that is true, still worth a try if you have skills and background that is in high demand.
but in that case handing resume in person at an office will not do you much good.
deloitte, accenture, ibm etc are more sane when it comes to looking at applicants.
another company to look at is E&Y, their non compete with Cap Gemini expired so they are building their consulting arm now and hiring like crazy.
