hand carry luggage allowance - travelling to pakistan

Hello everyone. Can someone please help me? I am going to karachi end of this month after almost 14 years and I am pretty clueless on what is allowed for me to take in my hand luggage. I have 2 toddlers with me as well.. will I be allowed to take any home made food for them? We are travelling via Ettihad Air. How about snacks like chips or cookies for them? and can any girls who’ve made a similar trip please tell me if you were able to carry makeup in your handbag? I will be meeting with a lot of relatives and didn’t want to look like a slob when I get off after such a long flight. I wanna be able to carry some makeup for touchups but I don’t know if they will just toss it all out during check in? Can I carry stuff like gloss/ mascara etc. ?

Also, I have a few shalwar kameezes which are absolutely party wear. I don’t really have anything casual .. will I attract too much unnecessary attention if I wear anything else? say comfortable pants/ top/ coat? Or should I just strictly wear a shalwar kameez. My sister travelled a few years ago and felt extremely uncomfortable with non stop glaring from pathans at abu dhabi airport and we will be stopping at abu dhabi airport for a stop over before landing in khi.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback at all.. thanks!!

  1. I believe that the carry-on limit is 10kgs or 22pounds - check out the website.

  2. You are not allowed to carry any liquids over 100mls. So if you take perfume or lotions, it must be in a container that is less than 100mls (each). All liquids must be placed in a clear ziploc plastic bag - so only take your essential make-up items in your hand-bag/carry-on. I'm overly cautious and place all my liquidy make-up in the ziploc just so that it's in one place.

Do not take tweezers, nail clippers, nail files or any other pointy object with you in your carry-on - it depends on how strict the security personnel is - some make you throw it away.

  1. You can travel wearing whatever is most comfortable (as a mum, comfort before all else), but I personally prefer to disembark in PK wearing shalwar-kameez just because I don't like being stared at. Mind you, travelling to UAE - I didn't have any concerns about Western wear there.

  2. Food - yes you can take food from home, but no juices or drinks.

Once you are done with the security check, you can buy drinks from the airport stores or get water and take them on board if you feel you must have something on hand. Food is ok to take. Take lipstick and a compact foundation/ pressed powder with you. Those are ok to take and you can even use the lipstick as a blush on.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm relieved I can carry food for my kids and yes buying drinks/ water before we board the plane is also not a bad idea. I would just not want to be on a plane without options for food for my picky eaters.

and for makeup I'm thinking of narrowing down all the stash I have in my bag and just stick to essentials. Hopefully it's a peaceful trip. I will update here for anyone else who'd want to know more after we're back. Thank you guys!!
