Capital Talk is the best show on GEO News indeed
The previous episode was dedicated to the legend Ahmad Faraz who passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy. Ahmed Faraz, despite being a legendary poet was also a vocal opponent of dictatorships and always spoke the bitter truth no mater what. He also threw the award given to him by Musharraf back, saying he wouldn’t accept such an award from a dictator who is leading the country to civil war in 2006.
-
Hamid Mir paid tribute to him and showed clips of when Ahmed Faraz came on Capital Talk last year. He said that Musharraf’s chamchaz at the end of the show told Hamid Mir that he shouldnt listen to Faraz as he was ‘a bad influence’, and he and his influence will soon die. Hamid Mir said that its ironic, that today those people are gone, and Faraz and his legacy lives on.
-
He showed Faraz on Capital Talk, where Faraz (who always spoke the truth), when asked about the army said that ‘Baaqi jaggah tu jahaan bhi lartey hain shikast kha jatey hain, tribal areas mey bhi, lekin ab aik masjid mey hangama kar key buhat khush ho rahey hain’.
-
Hamid Mir also stated that in June, during the long March, Faraz despite his weakened and critical medical condition was at the parliament house long march with the lawyers, and stayed there for 6-7 hours and kept on protesting, with his revolutionary poems and slogans.
-
Makhdoom Javed Hashmi was also there, and related Faraz’s poetry to his solitary illegal confinement in the jail by the dictator. He said that it was Faraz’s words that kept him going, and motivated him to say no when he was asked to make a compromise with the Government.
-
It was also mentioned that it seemed like Faraz just hung around long enough to wave goodbye to the dictator, and got his last wish fullfilled.
