Hamas Leader killed / World condemns Israel (MERGED)

What goes around comes around.. and the cycle continues.

Neither is Israeli leadership pure nor is Hammas and its leadership.

If it was war of freedom as Hammas claims it was, then in war leaders die and are killed. Mr Yasin follows in line of other such generals. nothing new there.. haven't the so called great Muslim Rulers of the past taken similar actions??

And... for all the people sympathising with words of 'poor blind man' .. shame on you that you belittle a man and are so arrogant to think a man in wheelchair is not worth much... I thought as Muslims you would be above that.

Isn't the most brilliant man alive at the moment confined to a wheelchair and needing a computer to communicate with the world?? yep.. i refer to Dr Stephen Hawkins.

I do not understand why Yassin should have been exempt in this conflict?! If you can assure me that the head of Hamas had no knowlege or participation in this bloody conflict, and the intentional deaths of innocents, then perhaps he should have had some immunity, but I would find that hard to believe.

The wheelchair? His age?

Please tell me that if Hamas were able, that they would hesitate for a second at killing Sharon.

Maybe arafat will be next? We can hope.

From his gravesite, Sheikh Yassin is going to be able to attract VASTLY far more suicide bombers than he could ever have done while he was alive. For this, PM Ariel Sharon should be thanked for his government's incredible arrogance. They have just dug the graves of who knows how many Israeli citizens.

Israelis are dieing anyway, killing yasin will be good for the long-term, even if dangerous right now. Israel has the power to reach anywhere to kill terrorists. This is an important message.

"Palestine has the power to reach anywhere to kill terrorists."

That sounds like something Hamas will be saying next week when they blow up a few dozen buses somewhere in the heart of some settlement. Sharon's admin has dug the graves of its own citizens. i hope he at least realizes that. Having Sheikh Yassin assassinated, especially subsequent to his performing his prayers, coming back from a mosque, while he was sitting on a wheelcair - these are powerful symbols, replayed again and again on millions of Muslim tv sets around the world. The arrogance and stupidity of this is mindblowing. Sheikh Yassin was far less dangerous in his wheelchair, alive, than he will be dead and buried.

Hamas may be only side to profit from Yassin’s death

By Danny Rubinstein Haaretz

The assassination of Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin may well turn out to be a blow, not to Hamas, but to the Palestinian Authority. In the power struggle waged for the past several years in Gaza between the PA and Hamas, it was Yassin’s organization that enjoyed an ever-increasing advantage in the sphere of public opinion.

Hamas is perceived as an organization whose leaders are free of corruption and ready to make sacrifices. In the eyes of the Palestinian street, Hamas’ diplomatic tactics have proven themselves to be effective, while PA chairman Yasser Arafat’s strategy has led to a dead end. The assassination of Yassin puts paid once and for all to the possibility that the PA will take measures to restrain Hamas and curb its members.

The more Israel hits Hamas leaders and rank-and-file members, the more their popularity climbs. In tandem, they become increasingly immune to operations by the PA’s security force, since any such operation would only be interpreted as treacherous collaboration with Israel. Recently, there have been a few cases in which the PA’s security forces tried to arrest Hamas activists, but hundreds of the organization’s activists physically blocked their path and prevented the arrests.

There are some 20,000 armed Palestinian Authority police officers in the Gaza Strip, compared to barely 2,000 armed Hamas members. Nonetheless, the balance of power between them is not based solely on number, but on the public standing that each group enjoys.

The assassination of Yassin could, therefore, merely contribute to the collapse of the Palestinian Authority, and, by creating chaos in the Gaza Strip, turn Hamas into the only side to profit from Yassin’s death.

Lets not forget that Sharon is planning to get out of Gaza to save what they have of the Jewish state. Sharon just said in an interview

Lets hope that the Muslims in Palestine use their natural right to destroy who ever deny them their homeland.

If only he could see what was coming his way.

Well Its something very unexpected and I was not aware of that fact, that this move would ever help the US, Israel in any way. All my thoughts about why he is still alive and kept away from those terror attacks commited by Israel, have been heavily disturbed.
I would like to here from some of you why he was murdered and what is Israel up to now!?

what i wonder is why Israel would do this now. this person is not new and has been around for a long time. if anything, his role has diminished since 1987 since he could barely talk and was obviously inactive. whenever the terrorist groups got out of control in Palestine, Arafat would go to him to ask him to reel them in and they listened to him. Now, it seems likely that 1) Hamas will branch off into many different organizations (this is what happens when a strong leader dies), 2) Terrorism will increase because the Palestinians feel anger and are thirsty for blood and 3) it will become more difficult to stop terrorism because there is no one central leader any more.

If Israel had shown a commitment to its treaties and peace initiatives then this day would not have come. Today the region lacks any hope. It is a sad but expected outcome. Too bad innocent Jews and Arabs will die.

I more agree on that and since every kid knows that Hamas is been supported and "created" by Israels Intelligence and this blame has to vanish one day or another, therefore they need new orgs. to keep the blame directed on the Arabs and their support for them.

What has to be said: the nont condemnation of G.W Bush (in fact no reaction), coz this is no way of killing any human and then he was handicapped.

to add to that, maybe Israeli government took a calculated risk while risking the citizens of israel but in all probability they have misunderstood the backlash capabilities which will bring more deaths, more bloodshed.

Saby there is nothing unplanned not for the Israelis they work out plans years before they execute them and practise them weeks months before.

It is terrible that it had to happen like this. When two parties can’t resolve their issues, and if the rest of the world just stands around with their ass exposed, the world is to be blamed for that. When two parties cannot stop killing one another, someone’s got to go and either (a) kill them all; or (b) separate them and (c) force them to sit down and resolve their dispute before everyone in that part becomes a victim of this useless murder. We know that the Arab world is impotent, I think Europe and China should take a lead on this one. America tried, but it ain’t working.

State sponsored assassinations are a sign of weakness and not a sign of strength.

yet again we see the assassins playing judge, jury and executioner, without any arrest or trial.

I dont think they misunderstood the inevitable backlash, this is exactly the response the israeli g'ment was looking for, why? ... after any backlash they can propagate to the world, further atrocities as justifiable.

more killings, more murders, more terrorists. never ending vicious cycle.

its so easy to discuss this here but things wud be lot different if u and me are actually in the middle of this conflict and facing it up front with it.

This as decreased any chance for peace, so I wonder about the wisdom behind this assassination, and as far as""sheikh Yassin is a terrorist, thus a legitimate target"" goes, the resistance cannot match the IDF with military might, hence the unconventional methods, and regarding the never ending vicious cycle of violence,to break this the responsibility lies on the shoulders of the stronger side. the question is, is A.Sharon genuinly for peace? or two states? ...judging by the missile attack on a old man in a wheelchair, I think I can safely say No.

So taking out one who supports and arms suicide bombers so they may prevent peace from occurring "decreases" the chance of peace occurring? Interesting logic there.

Oh Oh Jews are digging their graves, pay back is always a bitch.... No need to bitch after what is comming. Stay tuned. The two factions of Pali have united.... My my what a move.... only jews could do that.
