Hey, you guys remember that old intellectual comedy type Urdu drama on PTV…Half Plate…?
We were just watching one, STN 3 was showing re-reuns, where Moin Akhtar plays the adeeb Mirza and Khalda Riasat plays his wife. Jamshed Ansari plays their son. Latif Kapadia plays Iftakhar from Canada and the actor, I forget his first name, something But plays the maalak-makan…
dialogues were so well scripted, very witty, very funny stuff, and ending was so touching :k:
I was just watching this long play on tv, staring Moin Akhtar, Khalida riasat, Jamshed ansari, Badar khalil etc. I have watched it quite a number of times, and I am of the view that this is the best literary work Anwar Maqsood has ever written :k:
The subject is quite serious(poor living condition of lesser known poets and writers), but it is done so nicely that the viewer enjoys it immensely. Khalida Riasat, a great actress Ptv ever produced. She is known for her serious roles, but she did this role so amazingly to perfection. Moin Akhtar, I firmly believe that he can do justice to any role given, as he has done in this drama.
Although it is about 8-10 year old but thanks to ptv or prime, they show it once every year or two.
One thing that i noticed that writers and producers of ptv were so much commited to their work in 70s, and 80s. Their standards were so high that it was hard to find any flaw. I miss that quality

how come they don't make stuff like that anymore?

I wish I knew the answer to that.
The only solution I see to this problem is that people who miss that kinda work should stop complaining and instead get involved with the field and teach these Lollywood wannabes what good comedy is.
Half Plate was pretty damn good but I don't think it was Anwar Maqsood's best work. Khalida Riyasat (marhoom) was brilliant though - as usual.
Is that the drama in which at one point Moin Akhtar asks his wife to make chicken biryani and she says..."Almari mein se apni checken ka kurta nikaal kar uss mein chawal ubaal lo..ho gayi chicken biryaani"...
heheh i love this dialogue...its just too funny and witty :D...
