Indians and Chinese get better jobs than white British men**
“How Fair is Britain?” paints a picture of racial and social “segregation” in the job market and education.
It calls for urgent action to expand opportunities for some ethnic groups to find good jobs and get places at top universities. For many ethnic minority groups employment rates remain too low. More than half of Muslim men and three quarters of Muslim women are unemployed. The Equality and Human Rights Commission says more should be done to ensure that Muslims in particular are helped to find jobs.
The report finds that in some areas of life, working-class white boys and men struggle compared with second generation immigrants. The report, billed as the most comprehensive inquiry ever into discrimination in Britain, warns that working-class white boys have been overtaken by other ethnic groups at school.
Some white men remain behind their Indian and Chinese peers, who are increasingly high fliers.
The study says: “People from some ethnic groups are more likely to be in higher skilled, professional occupations than others.
**“For example, Chinese and Indian men are nearly twice as likely as white British men to be in professional jobs.” **
Just 14 per cent of white men are in professional jobs, compared with 27 per cent of Chinese and 25 per cent of Indian men.
The 700-page review, which draws on sources including census data, surveys and research, finds some ethnic groups are “clustered” around certain occupations.

**Almost a sixth of Chinese men (17 per cent) are chefs while nearly a 10th of African men are security guards. **
The report estimates that under-employment among ethnic minorities costs the economy £8.6 billion a year in benefits and lost revenue from taxes. It warns that talent is being wasted because so few ethnic minority students go to the best universities.
Only 8 per cent of black students are at the elite Russell Group universities, compared with 24 per cent of white students. The review calls for intervention to stop this “educational segregation”.
Trevor Phillips, the commission chairman, said the recession threatened to “deepen the fault lines between insiders and outsiders”.
The figures are pretty embarrassing.. Can’t see things getting better anytime soon either
