Well this weekend, I actually made Haleem. I was dying for some and as its very rare that I eat Haleem, thought why not try it out.
I have this book, where desi foods recipes are described, also I have a Ahmed Haleem Masalah box, so I kind of combined those two and made Haleem.
you need:
1 kilo Chicken meat
1/4 kilo Beef
1/4 kilo different daals. (mung, chana, musur ki daal)
1/6 kilo whole wheat grains
different masalas
yoghurt 1 cup
lemon juice 2 tbl. spoon
garlic (5-6 cloves)
ginger (3-4 tbl. spoons
green chilli.
2 medium size onion
recipe:
soak the daal in water and let it stay for some hours, sprinkle some water on the wheat grains, crush with a heavy ithem and let the outer layer peel off and use the inner part. Now take a big pot, put the daals, whole wheats in water and let it boil till totally soft. Grind the mixture after it cools down.
Meanwhile let the meat boil with spices, ginger, garlic, green mirche, after the meat is tenter, take away the bones.
In a pot add oil and the peeled and sliced onion, fry the onion till brown and take it out on a plate and ly it on tissue paper. In the rest of the oil, put in the meat without the bones, let it fry for a while, add some more spices, salt, garam masala if necessary, then add the lemon juice (its not a must, as it makes the haleem a bit bitter, so if you dont like this, dont add the lemon) add yougurt and stir for a while till meat takes on some colour, now seperate the cook meat with spoon or with a heavy ithem, so that the meat is a loose and mixed.
Now add the daal/whole wheat grinded mixture in the meat, add a cup of water and stir for a while. In 10-15 minutes the haleem is finish.
Garnish with brown onion, green chilli, ginger cut into long pieces, square cut ionion, lemon. Viola!
Sorry dont have a pic, but it looked like the pic, that Shinno posted in the image gallery.
