I have to share this.. Last night we were invited for dinner somewhere and besides other dishes, they had haleem. Now for the garnishing, they had the usual stuff, chopped green chillies, ginger, fried onions, chaat masala, but instead of chopped cilantro, they had chopped mint. I waslike ummmm.. maybe they didn’t have the cilantro or maybe they don’t know what’s to be put on top.. but believe you me…
The haleem tasted absolutely regal with the mint leaves!!! It was soooo yum. She gave me some to take with me and I topped it with tons of mint leaves and well I was just havin food right now. I can’t tell you all how GOOD it tastes with the mint as opposed to the dhanya.. I’m considering doin that next time whenever I make haleem and have guests over. anyone else does that? substitute cilantro with mint on purpose..???
In Karachi they always keep mint for garnishing at haleem dawat on Moharram days. Beside this we ginger, bullet chillies, lemon and freind onions. Nobody serves corriander or cliantro.
my mom tops her haleem off with mint all the time- its soo deliciousss!! she even puts it in biryani- definately try the mint in chicken/beef biryani- it tastes sooo goooddd-- she started putting it in biryani recently but i tell her to do it everytime now- and as for haleem ur absolutely right its delicious with it :)
Never had mint on haleem... or may be i get so greedy when see haleem that i do not notice the garnish.... but i remember green chilies and onions very well.
My mom makes awesome haleem and she usually makes a tarka of fried onions and ginger for it.....and includes dhaniya for garnish. But I will try the mint next time. I love the flavor of mint.
One of my least favorite vegetables is squash (kaddu). I don't like it. But my cousin once cooked it with finely chopped mint leaves.........and it was absolutely delicious. Didn't feel like kaddu at all!
