Halal Music?

Salaams,

My query is regarding permissibility of listening to music or types of music. I am actually after some songs (halal?) that I could listen to during my workouts. I have listened to too many speeches and they bore me so please don’t recommend them as an alternative!

Re: Halal Music?

Peace ramesha,

Listen the recitation of Holy Qur'an with translation of different Qaris.

Re: Halal Music?

**any song in which the words are NOT vulgar, are NOT suggestive and/or which do NOT hover over anti Islamic beliefs.

now, among instruments, only DUFF is allowed as far as Islamic guidelines are concerned. **

Re: Halal Music?

Plz give list of some sample songs which meet this criteria...

I could only find Milli Naghmas fulfilling this criteria.

Re: Halal Music?

**lemme put it this way...it's safer NOT to listen to any songs if you care for your deen that much. there is hardly any song these days that might fit this definition...in old days, men used to sing folk songs with just duff and that was Islamically OK.

another point, if a woman is forbidden to recite Qur'aan with a loud voice in her own home then how can a woman sing Na't or whatever and that too in front of naa-maHrams.

i'm talking in reference to strict interpretation of fiqh.**

Re: Halal Music?

If you go by strict code given by Islamic scholars then even nateen/nasheeds with instrumental music and qawalian will not be permitted.
Then this concept of hearing voice of na mahram , and singing for na mahram or any kind of unnecessary interaction between na mahram music will qualify for that.

So what do you do ? Read as much as you can on this subject and make your own decision. Life when you follow religion does not have to be as miserable as it has been made over the centuries.
For fear of derailing the thread this is all I can say. For details visit this link.

I personally agree with the contents of this link.

Re: Halal Music?

EXACTLY! not ONLY that...these days most poets writing na'ts are carried away in EXALTING our Prophet [s.a.w.s.] status in such a way that they commit KUFR and people do NOT realize that...we must be careful...i read na'ts of USTAD poet's of bygone era and compare to today's sho'araa, **i find HUGE differences in terms of crossing THIS LINE! They stayed well within the circle while today's poet's routinely hover over and lot of time cross over.**

Re: Halal Music?

Those shora are not shora , they are doing tuuk bani. Unn ko shair kahna , saray shairoom key touheen hay.

Re: Halal Music?

hahaha...i couldn't disagree even if i wanted to...eight on! :)

Re: Halal Music?

Here is what I think :)

Just like everything else, music is also of two kinds. The music that strengthens and heals the soul, and the music that strengthen the nafs.

Any music that provokes you to indulge in an un-Godly, un-holy act, the act that can oppress your soul, is not allowed.

Any music that moves your soul to ecstasy, gets you closer to divinity, purifies the soul is Halal.

Many Muslim saints who brought hundreds and thousands of people closer to God, were poets and musicians. The saint of sub-continent Amir khusro is said to have invented Tabla. Tambura, another musical instrument, was invented by Sindhi saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai. Drum is routinely played in mourning processions in Iran and Iraq. In turkey many gatherings of Zikr and whirling in dervish community are accompanied by soul music. Flute is also an instrument that saints routinely used to awaken the spirit of people.
