Halal-ifying an outfit

Soooo, what do you lot do (if you need to do anything) to make an outfit more modest/halal? Sometimes I find really nice shift dresses which don’t look right with skinnies/trousers underneath cos they’re too long, or nice dresses which you can wear a cardigan over but then it becomes too layered, or covers up a nice neckline/sleeves.

So what do you do to make it more wearable? Anything you can suggest to make it a bit more different?

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

Tube-tops or tanks have cardies put on them, short dresses are either worn w/ tights or skinnies. As for deep/low necklines, I find wearing an undershirt helps. One time my mom sewed in a cloth to cover it and it looked fine. There's always a way to fix things, I guess.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

^Haha I used to sew pieces of cloth on low necklines back in the pre-hijab days. Necklines aren't really an issue for me anymore, it's just that stuff like tights and short cardis aren't always an option for me.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

i don't buy dresses i can't think of a way to wear them. i hav seen some ladies wearing long dresses with long boots but tbh it seems awkward with hijab on but may b would look fine with a stylish knitted cap.
i was today thinking how to wear skirts in a way it doesn't look bad n u look totally covered. i've seen some very pretty skirts today i wanna wear.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

For me...I wear a lot of leggings, pants, cardigans, full sleeved shirts under sleeveless things, etc.

It just depends on the outfit.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

A burka. :tubelight: Maxis are still really in atm and for the cooler months you could wear a nice blazer over the top. Or you could wear a fitted top underneath, so you’re still covered and can show-off the design. Mabrook, try maxi skirts…they’re right on trend and totally covered.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

I've got maxi dresses which are perfect in summer time. ATM it's freezing so I can get away with layering, but I don't want it to get lumpy/bulky and it's not always easy to get a stylish jumper/woolly dress :(

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

sorry for intruding…

but how about haramofying yourself… instead of halalofying the dresses :hehe:

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

Please do expand Nomi, in which way - do I wear a slab of pork on my head a la Lady Gaga style?

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

naa........i thought.....u dont even need to haramofy ....... just find a molvi who approves haram dresses.........he will give you a lot of ''gray'' to work with.......and you have it :D

or

you could become spiritual.........

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

stares long at the thread title

I am loving it :D

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

This is besides the point but it’s been like 6 years since I started hijab and I’m still not able to experiment with it. I’m stuck at black.

I love winter for hijabies :hehe:. We can layer and be all covered without worrying about sweating and looking all freaky. I’m not comfortable wearing leggings under my dress :/. I feel like I’m naked. But I do wear lots of skinny jeans and sometimes they’re really tight so I make sure my dress is up to my knees.

omg we should post our hijabi outfits :aisha:

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

yea but the skirts i’m talking abt r short. long skirts not my style. i’ll see if a skinny jeans under looks ok.black leggings don’t look good on me.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

i LIKE this thread!
In particularly in summer i just dont know what to do!
i get very hot very easily but so hate having to wear cardigans all the time on top of strapless stuff and feel a bit silly especially when on holiday in 30+ heat :(
as you all say winter is so much easier
I also find i end up looking frumpy some days :(
Ive done the sticking fabric under low necklines before too which is great :)
i think we need a line of maxis for the more modest dresser!

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

I think we need to have an intervention for you. Seriously, the black hijab thing is starting to bug me. If I was over there, I’d have forced some wonderfully rainbowed scarf on you by now

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

Yes maxis but also other things! You can get fed up quite quickly of wearing maxi dresses/skirts all the time - hence this thread!

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

i recently bought a few short skirts. I have one pleated leopard print short skirt that i wear with my straight jeans and ankle boots. I wear it with a black turtleneck ( there is a pic of me in somewhere on GS).

I do have a few of those high-low skirts/dresses. LOVE them. Wear them with straight/skinny jeans.

you could wear knee high boots with midi skirts/dresses.

i'm loving vests these days. they are good for layering and covering.

also love peg trousers.

for i wear dresses a little higher than the knee with pants. if they are longer i would just hem them.

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

Is it strange that I’m finding you irresistibly attractive right now Maddy?!!?!? :@:

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

I LOVE PEG LEG TROUSERS AND CHINOS!! I’ve got about 4 or 5 diff ones in diff colours, which I find incrediibly flattering. Only thing with these is that they sometimes look odd with dresses, so I wear a top with a long cardi with them.

I don’t think I can pull off the short skirt look though, my body shape’s too weird for that :frowning:

drooollll

BRB going to the burger shop :frowning:

Re: Halal-ifying an outfit

Afshi i wanna see that pic. the one i'm liking is also striped. i used to wear a black skirt under short tops to add a layer n covering for my back but my hubby didn't like the look n said i was trying too hard to b a teen so i don't use it anymore. but now i'm falling again for this colourful one from Tristan.
