Halal ideas for a mehendi (without music/dancing)

I’m thinking of having a mehendi, with such good ideas for my clothes and the decor etc lol but the problem is entertainment. It’ll be a really small occasion (around 20 women/girls) and I’m worried it won’t be interesting or ‘fun’ enough without the typical mehendi entertainment.

Does anyone have any ideas to make the event worthwhile??

So far as I know, weddings are one of the few occasions on which singing and music is allowed. Since it's a women only function, singing songs on dholak should be fine.

You're right in saying singing is allowed for women on weddings, but the only instrument allowed is a daff. It's quite difficult finding songs that use only that lol and tbh I'd find it kinda cringeworthy if we're all sat there singing :|

I was thinking more along the lines of stuff for them to do/look at so they're not just sat there staring at me on the stage and eating lol I want something more :)

Organise a lady or two to apply mehndi to the guests.

Re: Halal ideas for a mehendi (without music/dancing)

make it an actual mehendi party then! get a mehendi lady in and have her come and do all the girls hands. how about booking a couple of manicure and pedicure ladies and maybe a makeup artist too? maybe a couple of hair stylists? make it more like a bridal shower than a traditional mehendi. you have a small enough guest list that it would work wonderfully! rent a projector and put on an old movie that everyone will enjoy with lots of popcorn and snacks. get really, really good food catered or made at home- something different maybe from what they’ll get at your wedding. oh! and possibly look into hiring a photographer too who can maybe do a little photoshoot for your friends once they’re all dolled up.

not sure where you are, but this is the kind of mobile manicure service i’m talking about- French Manicures Toronto Mobile Spa. Mobile Manicures in Toronto and the GTA

in the end, though, worry not- everyone coming loves you and i’m sure they’ll love to see each other and socialise, so they’ll have a great time regardless of the planned activities.

I’ve mentioned Penn Masala’s acapellas to a few people on here. It’s just voices and there are no instruments used, but it makes for good music. Penn Masala

I’m sure you can use the dhol/dholki since the Hadith from the Prophet’s(pbuh) time refers to the noise of percussion, not necessarily the daff. The daff is just what was used in that specific geographic region to make a percussion sound. In South Asia they used the dhol. Any sound of percussion is “permissible” from what I understand. But if you’re looking to follow a Sunnah then I guess you would specifically use the daff. Don’t get too caught up in these little details though. As I’m sure you know, Islam is not a complicated religion and people back in the Prophet’s time would celebrate, sing, have fun too. It can be kept “halal” and still not be boring, ya know?

As a guy this is what I heard of some friends and family friends do when it is “no boys” and it doesn’t involve loud music/dancing:
-Played games(the ones you would play at bridal showers) and it turned out great for them. You can look those up online.
-You can print booklets of bollywood/wedding songs if you know your crowd won’t be as eager to start singing by themselves. This will help them get in to it. It always helps to invite that one family or those couple of aunties who are known as the “loud ones” or “fun ones” in the community cuz they get the energy going at these types of events.
-Have you thought about hiring a henna artist to come do henna on your guests? If budget is an issue you can set a prefixed rate of about $5 per hand and one hand per guest. That way your guests can’t request their own length/design and you would not have to spend a fortune. There are several henna artists who have rates for 1-hour of simple henna on women for mehndis or bridal parties. I’m friends with some(if you’re from Texas) so if you need contact info. let me know.

Lastly, don’t worry so much about making sure they have fun. They’re mainly coming to see you as a bride and to eat your food. lol. A gathering with 20 automatically becomes “fun” because everyone chit chats, laughs, jokes, etc. I hope it turns out great.

We are thinking of doing like a funny stage show type of thing... my sisters r pretty crazy anyway so theyre putting on together to take the piss out of the typical asian gangster, the typical aunty ji, the tep that sorta thing... maybe u could do summat like that?

Re: Halal ideas for a mehendi (without music/dancing)

if you looking at it from a halal propective, there is not concept of mehndis in Islam...

Re: Halal ideas for a mehendi (without music/dancing)

i tried for my mehendi to be very very simple with no shor sharaba and specially dancing females infront of male....
it was a gathering of 25 women from my family n some of my friends in our house...no male allowed...
but we used dholak for singing some songs took some pics from our cellfones n then dinner....it was quite enjoyable
