Halal Ice creams

Does anyone here have a list of Halal certified ice creams ?

Re: Halal Ice creams

are there Haram Ice creams out there as well? :hmmm:

Re: Halal Ice creams

I just look for the v sign on my foods

Re: Halal Ice creams

yes if they contain alcohol, haram whey, rennet & pork gelatin.

Re: Halal Ice creams

yea but i learnt not all products that are suitable for vegetarians are halal since some might contain alcohol.

Re: Halal Ice creams

ice cream is just milk/cream/sugar…and what ever flavorings. As long as you’re not buying a flavor that is specifically alcohol flavored I don’t see an issue. As with any packaged food, if the ingredients list is a mile long and you can’t pronounce the ingredients, you probably should stay away from it anyway.

and whey and rennet are a part of making cheese, not ice cream.

Re: Halal Ice creams

Dark times are coming. I just stay away from the products where I even think there is something dodgy going on.

Re: Halal Ice creams

Whatever happened to the time when halal and haram referred to the consumption of meat and alcohol? It’s getting too over-complicated now - I’ve heard of halal Vitamin D tablets. Vitamin D!

Even if it states it has alcohol, rennet or gelatine in the product, the amount must be so tiny in comparison the rest of the ingredients it wouldn’t matter. It’s not like you’re eating a pig is it?

Re: Halal Ice creams

Even if its tiniest .0001% of alcohol Ulema deem it to be non halal. Ice cream seems to be sugar milk and cream but even certain flavours have colours that are not halal. Like strawberry, boysenberry, raspberry etc may have E120 which is derived from a cochineal insect which is not hahal. Even have to check for colour 160a. Best is to call or email the manufacturers and ask if they are halal suitable or not. Whey powder is usually seen in chocolates but lesser in ice creams.
And yes we have in Australia halal Vit D tablets thats because the outer covering of the non halal ones is derived from pork, my husband is a doctor and he told me this.
Moreover yes we can have excuses that we are not eating a pork or bla bla but then this comes in personal choice. Just if one can avoid then better. May Allah grant us the highest level of iman. Ameen

Re: Halal Ice creams

check out muslimconsumergroup.com for US based products. They seem to deem it haram no matter what type of alcohol is used to extract the flavor. In Hanafi maslak only alcohol from dates and grapes are haram in any quantity and synthetic alcohol is haram only in quantities that coz intoxication. Which is clearly not the case with ice creams. Shaf’ai maslak has no such distinction.

That said, it is very easy to make ice cream at home. Ice cream makers are inexpensive. You can use fresh fruit to flavor them. I use mango pulp.

Re: Halal Ice creams

i’ve found muslimconsumergroup as very hard and too strict to call out things as no no even if there’s a farthest doubt. We’ve to remember that pretty much everything can hv a small doubt. But we cant call it haram. So depends on an individual, if you want you can abstain from everything but I myself restrict myself when there is a strong evidence otherwise go for it.

Re: Halal Ice creams

I think for doubtful products they call it mushbooh and ask the consumer to exercise their judgement. At some level it is a personal decision about how strict you want to be.

Re: Halal Ice creams

I wish I was like that.

Woohoo, Sake here I come.

Actually there are five types. Dates, grapes, maize, honey …, and one more that I am forgetting.

Re: Halal Ice creams

whey is a by product of cheese production, how the effin’ hell is that haraam?? Are we not to drink even milk from cows that are American then? You realize they’re not dead yet, and so whether or not the butchering was done halal or not has no significance on a cheese product.

And alcohol … seriously?? There is really truly no alcohol in ice cream. Stop overanalyzing stuff.

Re: Halal Ice creams

Is this authentic that shafi does not have any distinction and hanafi allows consumption of synthetic alcohol in qty that doesn’t cause intoxication?

Re: Halal Ice creams

i think it matters if anything going into your system that is impermissible. alcohol, pork gelatin for sure are prohibited to consume regardless of the qty. however, i would say that is a personal choice if someone wants to abstain from it or not.

Re: Halal Ice creams

Common PCG, There are ice creams that contain alcohol.

Re: Halal Ice creams

Re: Halal Ice creams

Hadith number 10 in the Arba’een of Nawawi explains the connection between eating halaal and du’aa clearly:

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said : the messenger of Allah said :

“Allah the Almighty is good and accepts only that which is good. Allah has commanded the faithful to do that which he commanded the messengers, and the Almighty has said: “O ye messengers ! Eat of the good things and do right”. And Allah the Almighty has said : “O ye who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you” Then he mentioned [the case of] a man who, having journeyed far, is dishevelled and dusty and who spreads out his hands to the sky [saying] : “O Lord! O Lord!” - while his food is unlawful, his drink unlawful, his clothing unlawful, and he is nourished unlawfully, so how can he be answered !”
