halaal bread ?

Faisal I was just agreeing and making sure everyone got the message.

Back to this bread thing though and gelatine in polo's and the like....do people really consider this haraam?

The amounts we're talking about can be easily ingested in vapour form when inhaling in the vicinity of some hot stew. Is it advised to hold one's breath whilst around some haraam food too?

And what about haraam eating people, should one wear some sort of gas mask device? If so are then any halaal army and navy stores from where I could procure one when next in the UK?

I think she has forgottong about the thread by now, and left everyone else wondering lol

By law, its not allowed to add any kind of meat or meat products into a regular bread when you sell to your customer a (plain) bread.

Selling sandwiches, sauseges or all other bread by-products is totally a different story. :)

Thanks for all the repetition or other advises hehe I knew I can count on you guys :) .. Well I think I have to inform you if I've asked the bakery, I haven't yet as they are closed on mondays now I am not feeling well, so I don't know if I will go to work tomorrow and go there in the morning, but the main thing is that, the saleswoman is a meany old lady :( .. and I don't feel like asking her as she is allways in a bad mood somehow. :( I think I might wait till I see her boss and ask him later.

Thap, You do have a point there, as I don't allways check the ingredients on yoghurts ect... but having pieces of pork on bread is a different situation,, isn't ??! plus we should respect those who do.

u can never be sure of haram/halal in the west....
wonder why ppl have to chose such a life....

Assalam O Alaikum Reemzy

There are two kind of breads available, one manufactured by big to medium size bakeries which is marketed for superamrkets, food service and other fresh bread available in small bakeries or in restaurants. This type of bread made either with scrap or using bread mix adding only water and yeast or frozen dough made by big companies. Bread made with scrap mean using flour, water yeast, salt and shortening(they have choice to use vegetable oil or vegetable shortening or animal shortening) such as in Italian or French bread. These type of bread some time lack the use of emulsifiers and dough conditioners but other also uses dough conditioners. This hard type of bread is also made with L-Cysteine a dough conditioners if this ingredient is obtained from human hair then the bread become Haram but few Islamic scholars accepts this ingredient if it is made with duck or chicken feather from China or Japan like in DunKin Donuts's Cake donuts. Other dough conditioners are made with Mono & Diglycerides(other type of Mono & Diglycerides), SSL(Sodium Stearoyl Lactate) and they have to be from vegetable fat otherwise it will not be Halal. Sometime Soy Lecithin is also added, it is a Halal ingredient.

The main supermarket white bread is always made with emulsifiers and dough conditioners and they are Halal if they are from vegetable fat. Sara Lee the big bread company can not gurantee that all emulsifiers and dough conditioners are from vegetable fat unless if the bread is kosher certified. A list of Halal bread from all over US is mentioned under Current Food Product section of our web site www.muslimconsumergroup.com

It is very important to read ingredients on the bread package and look for a Halal symbol or Kosher symbol on the package. We Halal certified Natural Oven Breads (with our Halal symbol Triangle "H" Inshallah will be on two Low Carb bread in October 2003) which are available in six states supermarkets such as IL, Wis, Ind, Mich, Minn and MO. We also Halal certified Jewel brand of bread in IL, Ind, Wis.

My advise is not to buy any bread from local bakery without any ingredients list.

On bread topping some time they add sea salt too but Big bakery such as Sara Lee or Bimbo topp the bread with grains and seeds.
