Hajji's returning from Hajj - What do I do with them????

InshaAllah we have relatives who are returning from Hajj this year. What are some of the traditional pakistani customs that people do to great them?

should we do phool ke haar (or bouquets of flowers), mithai and a small present? I know that the customs are different for different people - but i want to retain traditions and because my family really doesn’t do traditional things - I’m turning to you guys for help!

Thanks!!!

Invite them over for dinner.

phool kay haar and mithai, clothes (suit pieces) if close relatives.

The desi traditions are basically same for every occasion.....

Grand extravagant daawat,Clothes, Mithai, Phoolon ka Haar etc etc....

depends where you live. phoolo ka haar looks ridic at a western airport. maybe you can save it for when they come home? :D

cloth pieces... maybe a nice warm chaddar for the man (if there is one). mithai.

Sneak an AK47 into the airport boundary, when you see them hajis coming out, scream "Allah o Akbar" and start 'hawai firing'.

Davat with presents is what I would do

Re: Hajji's returning from Hajj - What do I do with them????

My in-laws were awesome...greeted us at the airport with flowers and are planning davats as we speak.

But the thing that I appreciated the most was that my SILs cooked up a whole bunch of food and stocked my fridge so I wouldn't have to cook for quite a few days. That was the best gift of all because Hajj is wonderful, fulfilling and EXHAUSTING. I came back almost a week ago and only now feel semi-awake.

So instead of gifts or parties...maybe think of a way to help out so your relatives don't have to get back to the grind right away? Offer to babysit the kids for a day, show up armed with cleaning supplies and make the house sparkle, cook some food and stock the fridge, offer to run errands. It will be much appreciated.
