Why is it a rule for a woman to be with a mahram for Hajj!? Why can’t she stand independently in Allah’s home?

According to fiqh jafferi its not neccesary to have mahram, but as its saudi law, we have to follow suit.

LOlz.. Islam is about submission and also about understanding. That’s the reason why we had our Rasul (SAW) to guide and explain to non-muslims and MUSLIMS.

Having a mahram is only necessary to get permission to enter the holy city. Once you are in Mecca and Madina, as a woman, you can roam around freely. You can go to the masjid freely, read namaz in Mecca where ever you want. There's no seperate entrance for men and women ... they stand side by side together and pray (only in Mecca). It's the first and probably only time in my life where I could openly read namaz next to my brother.
As for the "copping a feel" comment above, most people go there to pray and have good intentions, but I'm sure you will find the occassional pervert. Personally, I didn't run into any problems.
There will be men who stare like they've never seen a woman in their life before and there will be the occassional comment from a man who is walking by you, but they speak in Arabic, it's not like you understand anything they are actually saying. That kind of stuff you just have to learn to ignore. That happens regardless if you are standing next to your father or brother or whether you are by yourself.
The mahram issue is Saudi law though. Without proof of a mahram, you simply cannot go. Once you are there though, you can go yourself to the masjid. You don't need an escort. Cause of the size of the crowd though, it's better to have a man with you cause people push and shove.

it will again boil down to a sectarian issue.
nowhere in the Qur'an does Allah stipulate that the women can't visit His house without someone "mahram".. but Mullahs can't have women 'roaming around' without 'supervision' so they rely on other 'accounts' to arrive at such absurd rulings..
ask them.. they'll come up with "because Allah and Rasul says so" for the reason for women not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia too..

The following is the answer on hanafi point of view, unacceptable for those Munkareen-e-hadeeth who finds their brain better than Rasoolulah:saw:
Nauzu Billah Min Zaalik
It is not permissible for a woman to proceed to Umra or Hajj without any Mehram. The company of a Mehram is a pre-requisite for a woman for performing Hajj or Umra.
Following are the Ahadith that support this condition.
- Abu Huraira (May Allah be Pleased with him) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
For a women who believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment, it is not right for her to proceed on a day and night journey without a Mehram.
- Abdullah Bin Abbas رضى الله تعالى عنه narrates that he heard Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَsaying that
“No man should live with a woman in privacy in the absence of a Mehram. No woman should travel but with a mehram. A person stood up and said, ‘my name has been listed among the troops of a battle and my wife woman has proceeded for Hajj’. Prophet said, ‘You should perform Hajj along with your wife’”.
- A number of ahadith (traditions of Prophet) are found in the ‘Sahah-e-Satta). Details of these traditions are available in the book ‘Aap key Sawal aur unka Hal’ (Volume II).
Certain jurists of Malki and Shafai schools of thought have advocated for Umra or Hajj without a Mehram. However, they have conditioned it with traveling with a caravan in a peaceful and secure manner. Whereas some jurists like Ibn-e-Sereen and Auzaee have said that the condition of Mehram with a woman is for a Nafli Hajj, not a Obligatory Hajj.
Zahiriya has allowed only that woman to proceed on Hajj or Umrah alone who has no husband or mehram.
Anyhow the jurists of different schools of thought have supported their points of view according to their own faith in the following way.
- According to Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , the capacity to perform Hajj means the commodities of subsistence needed during the travel and the mean of travel like camel or horse. So any woman who possesses these things can travel for the Hajj without a Mehram.
- The second argument put forward by these jurists is that Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said to Addi bin Hatim that a woman will travel alone for Hajj from Hera in near future. She will not be fearful but of Allah.
- The third reason which is based on an opinion is that there is no need for a woman to have Mehram while proceeding to Hajj as this travel is Wajib. For Example, a Muslim woman flees from the shackles of the infidels and travels alone to Darul Salam.
However, it is not fair to infer from the above arguments that a woman can travel alone to Hajj or Umrah without any Mehram.
It will be oversimplification to think that the availability of the commodities of subsistence and the means of travel are the only pre-conditions for traveling for Hajj or Umrah. Other preconditions are also to be taken care of. The jurists agree that these are two big pre-requisites. However, they have conditioned the travel of a lonely woman with a caravan and secure route. A number of other jurists have conditioned this journey with the payment of the debt, fulfillment of the food and monetary needs of the family and constant mounting of the animal. These conditions have not been enlisted in the above mentioned Hadith. The jurists have put forward these conditions on their own without any cogent argument. However, Shawafeh and Mawalak have put these conditions without any reason. The arguments based on Addi’ bin Hatim’s narration and those related to the travel by a Muslim woman prisoner alone can not be a good basis to allow the women to proceed to Umrah or Hajj without any Mehram. The travel by lonely women can lead to moral depravity. Islam provides for protection to women’s honor and modesty. It was out of this Islamic principle that the Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ gave exemption to a companion from joining the Muslim army for a battle and asked him to proceed with his wife to perform Hajj.
According to a Hadith narrated by Ibn-e-Abbas رضى الله تعالى عنه, travel by a woman without any Mehram has strictly been prohibited in Islam. So it is advisable that a woman should not travel to any place blind without any Mehram. It is the best way to protect to her own modesty and honour.
