Hajj was on Sunday right?

I’m a little confused. If Hajj was completed on Sunday, then why are some people celebrating Eid today, (i.e. Tuesday). It’s not only people in other countries, (USA, Pakistan), but also half the population of Luton and Slough. Surely this Eid should be celebrated on the same day everywhere??

According to the prophet's time, the new month can only begin if the moon is sighted. Following the same tradition, the was sighted in Pakistan a day later, thats why they are celebrating Eid on tuesday. This is because the time of the appearance of the moon varies from region to region.

I understand that but I thought the Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated the day after Hajj. So, if the whole world does Hajj on SUnday then shouldn't Eid be celebrated universally on Monday?

From what I know, Eid-Ul-Adha has no connection with when Hajj is performed, it is celebrated on 10th Zil-Hajj (Islamic Calendar) and thus has a fixed date. I know that amongst the community where I live, some always perform Eid-ul-Adha the next day after Hajj, and some always perform it on the 10th of Zil-Hajj. I will try to get some proper references for you… just give me some time

~~ I have a dream… But I can’t tell you about it ! ~~

The EID is performed on the 10th which is the 3rd day of HAjj. Eid is not the end of hajj.

I was able to find the following Hadith on the subject..

**Volume 1, Book 3, Number 67:
Narrated 'Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakra’s father: **

Once the Prophet was riding his camel and a man was holding its rein. The Prophet asked, “What is the day today?” We kept quiet, thinking that he might give that day another name. He said, “Isn’t it the day of Nahr (slaughtering of the animals of sacrifice)” We replied, “Yes.” He further asked, “Which month is this?” We again kept quiet, thinking that he might give it another name. Then he said, “Isn’t it the month of Dhul-Hijja?” We replied, “Yes.” He said, “Verily! Your blood, property and honor are sacred to one another (i.e. Muslims) like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours and in this city of yours. It is incumbent upon those who are present to inform those who are absent because those who are absent might comprehend (what I have said) better than the present audience.”

**Volume 1, Book 8, Number 365:
Narrated Abu Huraira: **

On the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul-Hijja, in the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet when Abu Bakr was the leader of the pilgrims in that Hajj) Abu Bakr sent me along with other announcers to Mina to make a public announcement: "No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka’ba. Then Allah’s Apostle sent 'All to read out the Surat Bara’a (At-Tauba) to the people; so he made the announcement along with us on the day of Nahr in Mina: “No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka’ba.”

Although the second Hadith concerns a different matter, it refers to the day of Nahr (sacrifice) and attributes it to the 10th of Dhul-Hijja. It also does not make any connection with the ending of Hajj and the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.

hope that helps
