Hajj packing list for women and elderly

Salaam. IA, planning to go to Hajj this year with elderly mom. I would appreciate suggestions of things that you packed that you found useful.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

Peace garamasala,

:mash2: & Mabrook. May Almighty Allah accept your hajj :insh: Ameen.

You need Ihram and if possible keep two pairs with you. Keep a small shoulder bag with in which you can keep things like Masallah, small bottle of water, slipper etc. Buy some Saudi currency b’coz you’ll need for taxi (from Haram to residence place and vice-versa), Miswak, extra cloths to wear after opening Ihram and to wear after doing Hajj-e-Tamatta.

**Please don’t forget to carry wheel-chair for your mother. I suggest you to take it with you even if you don’t need it. **

Rest the tour group whom with you’re going will provide you all necessary things.

P.S. i don’t know if you went before or this is your first time. Here is two threads hope you’ll find helpful.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

JazakAllah Khair! I am also female and going for the first time. I’m finding a lot of information online about what our male family members need to prepare but not that much useful information that is specific to women and older folks. If anyone has suggestions on things like type of footwear and medication lists and anything they found particularly useful on their hajj/umrah, I would really appreciate it. I’m trying to be ultra-prepared because my mother is going with me.

IA, I will insist on taking a small travel wheelchair. My mother is reluctant to sit in one but I imagine she may feel differently as the journey as well as the heat will be hard for her. She is having a lot of trouble with heat these days. What kind of clothing would the ladies suggest for someone who has trouble in 90+ weather. She had a great attitude and is very determined so IA, please pray that Allah (SWT) will make it easy for her.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

Imodium. You DO NOT want to have to use the public toilets at Muzdalifah. Pharmacies in Mecca will be sold out of Imodium.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

bring a LOUTA along with you

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

Peace garamasala,

Our prayers are with you. May Almighty Allah make it easy for you both and may also accept your Hajj. Ameen.

These things you may take with you:

1- small scissor,
2- small shoulder bag to keep things like Pocket Qur’an, some amount, tissue, ladies cap, mobile, medicine etc.,
3- small cap to hide hairs,
4- white burqa (Jalabiyah),
5- soft slipper (two pairs for each person)
6- small bottle of water
7- small plastic bag (to keep slipper while going inside haram
8- an Umbrella
9- keep with you one or two gold rings as precaution for selling purpose and that is if by chance you run out money.
10- Neck pillow if you’re travelling from Madina to Makkah by road along with blanket.

Your hajj group will be accompanied by two doctors, including many male and female hajj guiders as it is essential requirement.

You’ll find medical clinics / small hospitals in all areas where hajjaj will perform hajj. They’ll provide free services with free medications.

Your hajj group will provide you local mobile sim for communication.

Take vaccines before going for hajj. Your Hajj service provider will let you know.

If I remembered something else important worth to share, I’ll post but in the meanwhile that’s all I recalled.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

MashaAllah, may Allah accept your and your family’s hajj.

I dont know anything specific for older people and most of the things to take along are same for men and women.

These are the things I can think of specifically:

I had with me a few lawn kameez shalwar. I also took leggings and light t-shirts to wear underneath abaya.
If possible get cotton abayas. Get a couple abayas at least.

I was there on a short package and had I known how drenched the clothes will get, I would have taken one pair of clothes for each day. I had to wash the clothes a couple times because I had taken fewer.
Keep a small amount of detergent in case. The abaya gets dirty too.

I found it a little more useful to keep reuseable thermos bottle for water with me. The water gets hot in the disposable bottle as well and the thermos kept it cool a little longer.

Umbrella, sunglasses
A scissor to cut hair
slippers
Comfortable pair of shoes for walking and cotton socks.

I found the cough drops very useful in Muzdalifa stay. Use them there to keep your throat from getting sore.

medicine: tylenol, vaseline, ricola cough drops, vitamin C tabs or packets
Keep the cough drops, vitamin C and tylenol with you in Mina and Muzdalifa. I left mine in the hotel and then had to borrow from others.

I did not get any local phone/sim. I mostly texted to communicate with my husband so I dont know how necessary that is. Alhamdulillah did not need to call/emergency.

If you are going to use pills to stop periods, you will need to start those at least 3 months before hajj.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

This is so helpful. My friend suggested something like this for hydration:

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

  • For clothes, 2-3 abayas made with comfortable fabric that doesnt need to be ironed, stitched with zipped side pockets for phone/money change , 6-8 very thin short sleeved comfortable lawn shirts to wear under abaya and comfy pants preferably with pockets too. I would strongly suggest you buy some similar unique prints/colours of hijabs for all female family members to wear so it is easy to locate and identify each other in crowds.

  • Keep dissoluble sanitary wipes to use in the washrooms.

-unscented unperfumed moisturiser, soap and lip balms

  • avoid eating much in mina esp ignoring the hummus, filafel and other gassy stuff. Labban (yogurt lassi) and dates are your best friends there since you dont want to waste time and energy in the loo’s and repeated wudu esp in muzdalfa.

  • Lots of painkillers and muscle relaxants , insect repellents, anti histamines , antibiotics for sore throat and gastroenteritis (ciprofloxacin works for both in most cases), imodium, lozenges, your moms medication if she uses any regularly and a copy of her prescriptions & any eventful medical history for reference if God forbid you need there.

  • Energy bars and snacks for transits since you might have to wait for many many hours at the airport once you reach there

  • a thin bedsheet and inflatable pillow (I took a lawn one that didnt occupy any space) to drape the matteress in Mina since they are not clean and cause eye and throat infection within hours. You wont want to get sick there so need to do all precautionary measures. SImilarly a small baby jaaye namaz enough for your face during sajda in mosques since carpets cause a lot of skin and droplet infections.

  • an umbrella, a battery charging bank for phone, 2-3 small bags and a bigger shoulder bag for mina (the bigger one stays in Mina camp without any valuables left because things get stolen in there normally and you go to Arafah/Muzdalfa with a smaller one that holds some eatables, water bottle, some medicines, dua books,a small foldable prayer mat and a disposable mat for muzdalfa that people usually leave there and dont carry back)

-see if your mom needs comfy insoles for extended walking (the ones you can get from Scholl’s or Boots) You can wear them within your socks when you have to walk long distances during tawaf/saee

LOTS of patience throughout. Once done with Hajj, no sleeping place will seem uncomfortable and no loo in the world will smell/look worse ever in your life

I will write back as I can thin of more  May Allah make it easy for you.

This is a great idea!

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

What material do you suggest for the abaya proto? Do you suggest a thin synthetic or cotton? We live in a cold climate so all the ones we currently own are quite heavy. I was thinking something like this: Front open Jilbab Grey with oversized collar but don’t know if this would be too heavy.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

I also used compression sleeves for legs for long walking. See if you find them useful.

Re: Hajj packing list for women and elderly

A wrinkle free fabric that is not see through. I wear an abaya regularly and I feel the front open styled, unless are loosely fitted and flairy, are not comfortable esp if you have to sit long hours and sleep in it (mina)
