Haircut confusion

Hey, I have a dilemma. I have really really really long hair. Like past my butt long. I mean, it used to be thick, and it still is for the most part, but I feel like my hair’s not as healthy as it used to be. And on top of that I’ve had the same long braid for the past…uh…ENTIRETY of my life.
I can’t decide whether I should just get a haircut. Like long layers…but like longer than the picture I posted. Like to my elbows.
My mom is ADAMANTLY against it.
I can’t decide!

Re: Haircut confusion

hmmm - i think if u got it trimmed to maybe the end of ur back it might still be acceptable to aunti.. as far as getting layers is concerned, I think if u get some where ur hair ends it might give ur hair the oomph it needs..

i wish i had long hair!

so you think getting it cut to the elbows it too short?

Re: Haircut confusion

I'd suggest you cut your mane elbow length. Don't put too many layers since you're not used to having hair fall on your face all the time. Perhaps 3 max 4 layers. It'll be all fun and flirty for the first week but soon you'll want to pull it back and braid it. Too many layers specially around the face will keep you from pulling all your hair back and escaped hair will keep touching your face. You're going to have to pin each layer away from your face and that can be such a nuisance. So 3 layers should give you the style change/oomph you desire, yet the hair would be manageable enough for you since you've never had anything done to it besides braiding it.
Good luck..!

Re: Haircut confusion

A personal experience:
I have always had very long hair, I remember the first time I cut it. It was touching my knees. I was 10. I had them chop the whole thing off. In fact, I had them cut and shave the bottom of my neck...! Hahaha... I looked like I was ready to join the army!

But like I said, I wasn't used to hair falling on my face and it was such a pain..! I couldn't wait for it to grow enough so I could pull it away from my face. Anyway, now its all grown back and I've done a zillion things to it since then but never made the mistake of cutting it too short or crazy.

Now my hair is hip length but looks shorter since I have curly hair. I've embraced my curls and thrown out my straightening iron..!

Go Locks!

Yeah, I'm scared my hair wont' grow back! :(
I'm like deciding between cutting it or just like getting the layers with the same length. But at this point those layers might look bad on hair as long as mine. And I won't be able to leave my hair down at all (same as now) because it'll be INSANELY long still. And at the same time, it'll be layered so I wont' be able to braid it.

You can braid layered hair. Its just that it all strands wont be neatly tucked in as with no-layered hair but nonetheless, it's braid-able.
Elbow length is still long enough. It's not like you're chopping all of it off.
If you want to keep the same length and want a slight change, just have 2 layers done. One framing your face and another about shoulder length. This way it'll be easier for you to braid, pin and handle your hair.
And of course, your mother will be happy too.

Yeah, I decided to go w/ Kim Kardashian’s haircut.

I’m just not sure about the length. I think it’ll stay elbow length (the longest layer) with the smallest layer framing my face.
I’m supposed to get it done tomorrow!
