exactly! I remember the summer of 97’ i went to ny and when i came back to houston i had some hair mascara. A lot of trends hit ny and a lot of them never came to houston at the time we were way behind. However hair masacara was a huge hit among us teenie boppers who wanted colored hair but our moms wouldn’t allow us to use chemicals.
Long story short it was sticky and gross, back then girls did the typical hair parted in the center, pinned behind the ears and a thin piece of your bangs on each side hanging forward, then those two pieces would be colored with the stuff.
I played around and did highlights and day one it was nasty but by day 2 it would dry out and when you’d brush your hair the color kinda tinted all of your hair and wasn’t sticky anymore, it was kinda neat. However it left traces of it on shirts, chairs and such. I also used those little spray hair colors in a can and that was fun. however if you ran your hands through your hair it would have a little of the color on it. it didn’t leave anything on your clothes and that too was a fun way to experiment with color without coloring.
But grown women using that, well I couldn’t see the need to.

how very nineties..we used to use it on our hair bak in school lol..it wuz tacky but fun..like instant highlights lol
