Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

I was wondering if it was allowed (religon base) or not?
I have searched on the internet and almost every islamic forum is stating that it is haram (because a women can seduce a male with her hair?)
and it is haram if you lengthen ur hair.

But what if someone wants to have extensions to make her hair look full and not lengthen it?

I have a wedding comming up and wanted to have some extensions in my hair, but now i am confused.

So did any of you guys has done it ever before?
Or someone knows more about it?

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

Most things are haraam/

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

well if ur not covering ur head , ur sinning anyway.. might as well get some extensions. I dont see a big deal. (if the sole reason of it being haram is what u mentioned in the post)

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

^Lol love your response

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

The deal is that i am not sure if it is haram or not. One says it is in certain perposes and the other one says its allowed.... Ofcourse i can get them but i was wondering if anyone knew somethin more about it :)

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

I have been searching over internet about this too, because i wld love to have hair extensions too, but i couldnt find any thing that would be in favor of having artificial hair... i dont know.

maybe the knowledgeable people here could throw some light :)

i agree with sabaabc's reply though but again, what if i want to have extensions at my house, only.... thx to thin hair :)

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

Heck! Who needs hair-extensions to seduce a man!

It's all about the intention. You're not wearing them with the intention to seduce men so go for it.

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

It's got nothing to do with seducing men but it is haram to use a part of a human body for decorative purposes. There is a Sahih hadith in which Prophet saw said Allah has cursed women who use hair extensions. There are no ifs and buts about that as far as real human hair extensions are concerned but there is some confusion with regards to synthetic hair extensions. Some scholars say they're also haram but some say they're like any other piece of jewellery. I personally would refrain from both.

I was watching a programme on ARY in which they exposed a network of people in Pakistan who were stealing human hair from graves and selling them to manufacturers of hair extensions o_O And I'm sure Pakistan isn't the only place this is happening at. This is enough to put me off of human hair extensions for sure!

Re: Hair extensions…Allowed or Not?

OMG

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

There is detailed info on GS on it..

Should come up if you do a search..

Speaking very generally human hair extensions are considered haram by most.. Synthetic are considered ok by some but not by others..

If you delve even deeper there are side issues linked to this as well (false lashes etc)..

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

The way I see it: If Allah gave you a lot of hair maybe women wouldn't be using them. I know of women who dont' have much hair resorting to a few hair extensions. If the problem didn't exist would they use them? Maybe not

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

Synthetic is allowed

Re: Hair extensions…Allowed or Not?

Thanks Huma! Do you know if it is allowed if one wants it done for her husband? I mean doing eyebrows is also not allowed, but if one does it for her husband it is? …

I saw the program today! it was Sar e aam i think it really disgusted me  (the ones that wanna see the episode : Sar-e-Aam - 17th March 2012 - YouTube

Re: Hair extensions...Allowed or Not?

do u know by chance how that looks? (to fake?)

Re: Hair extensions…Allowed or Not?

Here’s the full hadith:

Narrated ‘Aisha (R.A):
An Ansari woman gave her daughter in marriage and the hair of the latter started falling out. The Ansari women came to the Prophet (pbuh) and mentioned that to him and said, “Her (my daughter’s) husband suggested that I should let her wear false hair.” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “No, (don’t do that) for Allah sends His curses upon such ladies who lengthen their hair artificially.” Volume 7, Book 62, Number 133: Sahih Bukhari

So the answer is pretty clear. Again, about synthetic ones, I don’t know, the best thing to do would be to speak to a scholar in your local masjid perhaps?

And yes, it was sar-e-aam. Gives you the chills :bummer:

Re: Hair extensions…Allowed or Not?

Thanks again Huma!!! This cleared a lot!

I will ask it in the masjid…But after reading the hadith, i think i ain’t gonn take any risk :bummer:
