Re: hair dying - conflicting views
i dunno.. apparently inhaling chemicals is not good for the babloo.. some people say to do it in the first trimester and others say to wait till the 2nd.. im confused
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
nope. all docs say to keep away from hair dying when you are expectant, no matter what the stage.
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
if i were you, i would consult my doc. I agree looking nice is imp for us ladies but in the end, your baby's health is most important.
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
yeah... i was speaking to my client whose had her first pre-natal and the doc said it was fine... i think they worry about about manicures or when ur getting acrylic nails done...
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
Ira, hair coloring isn't really allowed for pregnant women, my frend whos 7 months and bhabhi whos 4 months have both said..
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
Wait acrylic nails r off limits ??? WhY ?? ![]()
Sadz, U can try th semi permanent stuff that washes out in a coupla shampoos.. thas what my bhabhi’s doing n shes fine.. ask doc tho
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
I don’t know how it works in Australia but in the states you can call your obgyn for all the questions you have during your pregnancy, I would think it’s comforting and safe to get answers from a professional.
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
well technically you're not going to be putting the dye right onto your scalp, hence it not going in the bloodstream, and affecting dear baby..
if you're just doing the tips that is..
i would personally suggest against it, but if it's an absolute must, like you would die if you didn't dye 'em...then do it, but don't keep it on for too long so that you start inhaling the fumes..
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
interesting views... i may wait for another two weeks then till my first prenatal... im not going to be dying the full head neways just like 3-4 panels underneath.. but i guess better safe than sorry yeah?
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
what i found…
The chemicals in permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes are not highly toxic. Most research, although limited, does show that it is safe to colour your hair while pregnant. Some studies have found that very high doses of the chemicals in hair dyes may cause harm – however, these doses are massive in comparison to the very low amount of chemicals that a woman colouring her hair is exposed to.
Many women decide to wait to dye their hair until after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the risk of chemical substances harming the baby is much lower. You can reduce the risk further by making sure that (if you’re colouring your hair yourself) you wear gloves, leave the dye on for the minimum time, and work in a well-ventilated room.
Highlighting your hair also reduces any risk, as the chemicals used are then only absorbed by the hair itself and not by your scalp and into your bloodstream. Semi-permanent pure vegetable dyes, such as henna, are a safe alternative.
Do remember that pregnancy can affect the normal condition of your hair. Your hair may react differently to colouring or perming, becoming more or less absorbent, frizzy or unpredictable. It’s always a good idea to do a strand test first using the treatment(s) you intend to use. Speak to your hairdresser for advice.

Re: hair dying - conflicting views
Why take the chance, if you aren’t sure. You can go for a whole makeover after the little one arrives (in your freetime:cb: )
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
^ True... i can live without it.. im just going thru a wacko stage...
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
lol I can completely understand. Perhaps go for a hair cut if you need a change. Try a new style?
And a new wardrobe to match :D
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
^ Hehehe... i should huh? but im too afraid of getting a new wardrobe just yet and not being able to fit into anything in 2-3 months.. so im gonna keep that on hold at the moment
i cant part with my hair either :( i'll just straighten it... boring but a change
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
If you are expecting then dying or perming ur hair isn't recommended.
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
sadzz my step mom uses naturally plant hair color…you should look for those, as natural colors are harmless for the cihld, think about henna for example ![]()
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
Sadzz: I asked this question to my obgyn and this was her answer.
First of all she was against it! She said it is only about 9 months and why put your child's life in danger over some coloring.
She said if it was an absolute thing..........getting highlights is allowed since it does not touch your scalp but coloring the whole head was a no no. Atleast in the first and second trimesters.
Even with massages, manicures and pedicures. You have to be very careful!
This is just the beginning of the sacrifices....a mother has to undergo:)
YOu should see my hair right now...half my natural color and half the dyed color which i did about 2 days before conceiving.
I think after the delivery instead of coming home i am going straight to a salon;)
Re: hair dying - conflicting views
I asked my ob/gyn the answer was go ahead.
So I did.
And I did my whole head. Not just highlights.
Trust your instincts. There are too many conflicting opinions even amongst the experts.
