Hair Color help

Well, i was experimenting with highlighting my hair at home and the color i tried is a horrendous copper tone which looks not so flattering on my dark hair. I want to do an overall color to tone it down and make the highlighted color match my natural hair.

Any ideas on what brand or specifically what colors to look for that would look good and more “natural” on olive toned skin? I have tried Garnier in the past and had awesome results in terms of hair texture but need some color advice as well.

Re: Hair Color help

wouldnt it be wise to get a professional to color your hair??

Its gone horribly worng once, you might end up making it worse. ??

Re: Hair Color help

Get it professionally done. Any time I’ve tried doing it on my own, i’ve messed up my hair so now I go to a salon all the time, even when I want to go back to a nice dark brown. Go to a good salon (and then send me pics :clown: ).

Re: Hair Color help

I was once told to use "medium ash brown" by loreal
to even out my dark hair when I messed up while trying to color it.

Re: Hair Color help

Ash browns are supposed to look nice with olive skin, or so I was told. Check with a salon about a consult - even if you don't get your hair done there, it will give you an idea of what color range you should stay in. Also, it's really important to do a strand test. I once turned my hair a really brassy red instead of the auburn I was looking for.

errrr i'm itching to dye my hair again :(

Re: Hair Color help

Thanks for the advice ladies. From now on, all highlighting, streaking etc will be done professionally. Unfortunately (or fortunately), i didnt have the time to go to a salon since i needed a quick fix. So heres what i did.

I called the Garnier hotline, told the consult person my situation and also waht i wanted. She recommended i use Dark Brown # 40 in Nutrisse. Well, under 8 bucks, i have a gorgeous dark chocolate brown hair color, and the horrendous highlights are now a dark caramel brown color and look really nice when the light hits them. The hair is really soft and silky MaashaAllah, not all rough and dry like it was from my highlighting experience. I am in love with this shade
