My niece is having her nikah done this weekend. The plan was for later in the year but due to my brother’s health concerns the decision to move it up to Sunday has been made and she is now scrambling for some ideas.
The outfit is ready but we need some suggestions for hair and make-up.
The challenge is going to be the hair because she has a very short wedge cut and I’m wondering how I’m going to manage to get the necessary height for the dupatta setting on the head. Luckily the dupatta is not very heavy but it will still make her head look flat on top and she doesn’t want that.
For make-up, she typically likes darker shades of lipstick but I’m thinking that doing a red lip might be too much. (She is super-petite and has thin lips.) What do you think? What are alternatives for lips on a red suit? What would you do on the eyes?
(Please post pics if you can)
So come on stylists and artists…I really need your suggestions, tips and tricks now!!!
Here is the suit - dupatta is red with black jamawar border and light spray all over.
(I'm not a professional just have a big interest in makeup and hair) For the hair cheat and use extensions!! They'll add length to the hair and thickness. Usually hair is back combed to add height and if her hair is as short as it's in the pic then it's super difficult to achieve height and volume.
I personally love a red lip and think it looks amazing on brides...the shade of red looks like a bright red(correct me if I'm wrong) so a deep red will not look right a true red will complement the outfit. There are sooo many ways to cheat with makeup, as she has thin lips tell the makeup artist to slightly over draw her lips with lipliner, apply highlighter on the cupid bow and matte contour shade underneath the lip this'll create the illusion of fuller lips.
Hope this was helpful! :)
I had shorter hair on my rukhsati and I used extensions! My MUA could not create height with what I had so we went with long extensions that not only gave us height but also length. I had her fix them in, tease a bit and then the rest were pinned to and brought out from the side so it looked like I had long hair. You don't have to do the long hair look but the extensions will definitely help in setting the dupatta.
Also, for makeup...if you don't want to do a red lip I'd go with neutral lip and make the rest of her face heavier.
You can also do darker, brown smokey eyes with a matte red lip which is easier for people to deal with versus bright shiny lips. Classic and so so so elegant. Love that look.
For hair, google “bump it”. If it’s too late to buy that, use extensions and tease the heck of out her hair.
For MU: I’m not a huge fan of heavy MU for nikah or dark lipstick on thin lips. Here are some examples of brides with lighter lipstick. I would emphasize the eyes.
I have “Bump It” as well as a couple of other similar devices (half-round hair pads with velcro) that actually work better than the bump it. Gave those a try last night and managed to achieve some success. Wish I could get more strength but there aren’t many options. Her hair in the back is only about 3 to 4 inches long so even teasing it to heck will only last for a short while and she really needs support under it. Thankfully the dupatta is not heavy and she doesn’t like overdoing things so we have those two things working for us.
