Hadith Fabricators

Re: Hadith Fabricators

an example of hadith fabrication.

Imam Ghazali in his Ihya, would use the word "hunger" for fasting, when describing the importace of staying hungry for longer periods of time, often for consecutive days.

Re: Hadith Fabricators

Sharaabi bhai jaan: Imam Ghazali:rehm:, hadeeth fabrication.. err…

I will have to agree to The Hunk …

Re: Hadith Fabricators

yess AQ bhai, read the Ihya and then you would know what iam talking about. :)

Re: Hadith Fabricators

Dosto Salaam

this topic is really a delicate one. but off course there were hadeeth fabricators.
Mulla ali qari hanafi (Rehmatullahi Alaih) compiled the book named "Mozuaat e kabeer" in which he listed the fabricated ahadeeth and the name of the fabricators.
Most recently Allama Nasiruddin Albaani compiled the book named "Al ahadeeth e al za-eefa wal mauzooa"
Pcg if u seriously want to know more about fabricated hadeeth and the fabricators of these ahdeeth the two two books i mentioned above will be really useful.
but please keep in mind that the first book is IN 4 volumes and the second one is in 7 volumes.
I think both are availble in english.

secondly a book named "tehzeeb al tehzeeb" compiled by Hafiz ibn e hajar Al Asqalani is also very useful to get the knowledge about this.

and sharabi bhaee imam ghazali didnt fabricate the ahadeeth but he quoted these fabricated ahadeeth in ahya al uloom very frequently and freely. cause may be at that time he was not aware of this weakness of the ahadeeth he quoted.

JUST TO KEEP THE RECORD STRAIGHT
.

Re: Hadith Fabricators

PCG,

please dont be influenced so easily. Muawiya (ra) was one of the companions of the Prophet (saws) and i doubt any sunni would have hatred for him. Yazid on the other hand was a tyrant and is rejected..

Read this for more about (weak) ahadith: http://www.allaahuakbar.net/ahaadeeth/importance_of_the_isnaad_in_relation_to_hadeeth.htm
and this for a study of some weak/fabricated narrations, and what makes them such (they also mention names here..): http://www.allaahuakbar.net/ahaadeeth/weak_fabricated_and_baatil_ahaadeeth.htm

Re: Hadith Fabricators

an extract from above link:

to the above list one can add:

  1. al Abatil wa al Manakir - by Hussain ibn Ibrahim al Jawzakani (d. 543H)

  2. al Mawdu’at - by Ibn al Jawzi (d. 597H)

  3. Muwdu’at al Saghani - by Abu al Fadl al Saghani (d. 650H)

  4. Tazkira al Mawdu’at - by Muhammad ibn Tahir al Fattani (d. 986H)

… all of which are compilations of spurious hadith, often highlighting the narrator(s) accused of the fabrication

Re: Hadith Fabricators

Oh, god, are those the dates in which these books were written? No recently written book, in English perhaps?

Re: Hadith Fabricators

^ the best, most exhaustive works are in Arabic... but try and track down 'Fake Pearls' by Syed Iqbal Zaheer (Al-Attique Publishers Inc, Canada, 2002) which collects a few hadith from book numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9 from the above list plus al Albani's work mentioned in Mirza Ruswa's post... it'll give you an introductory glimpse i suppose
