I don't think anyone of us here on these forums is educated enough to explain hadith. But I am sure we can try to understand the hadith or even try to acquire help from folks in masjids around us. If you are muslim - (please check the exact definition of Muslim) and you recite kalima before your death - then according to the hadith you are eligible to go to Heaven. Now its upto Allah to allow you to enter Heaven.

Please read hadith again, it does not set a condition that you have to be a Muslim before reciting kalima at death to become eligible for Heaven, a non Muslim would become Muslim once he recites the kalima.

Yes, now lets apply this logic and not claim anyone who died as "falan shaheed", "falan falan will go to Heaven because he died on Thursday, or he died in water, or he recited kalima when he died", that is all for Allah swt to decide. Just save all that energy of judging others and use it to correct ourselves.

bhai jaan, this is not THE ONLY way of being eligible for Heaven or condemned to Hell, so yes, we should worry about our imaan ALL of our life, not just when we expire.

Perhaps I failed to mention the meaning of "khatimah bil khair"

So per this hadith, would a Shia, Ahmedi, Brelvi, Wahabi (who all consider each other kafir) goto Heaven if he/she recites "La Ilaha Illallah" when he/she dies?

I think I already mentioned a hadeeth regarding that but I know we are more concentrating on the afterlife of Saddam Hussain so my reference could have been irrelevent :)

Lets keep Saddam out of picture, lets look at the question I asked in the context of hadith in first post. I am sure you also are aware that Allah swt will forgive violations of "haqooqullah" but for violations of "haqooqul Ibaad" we will have to go through balances, exchange of good deeds for violations / dumping of bad deeds in case of shortage etc.
