As far as Im concerned all authentic hadees has the same status as a Quranic revelation as far as the source of that religious injunction is concerned, which is Allah.
SHAKIR: I swear by the star when it goes down.
SHAKIR: Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray;
SHAKIR: Nor does he speak out of desire.
SHAKIR: It is naught but revelation that is revealed,
SHAKIR: The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him,
SHAKIR: The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion,
SHAKIR: And he is in the highest part of the horizon.

The difference is, that the Quran is a set of revelations revealed in a particular concise form, which also has the guarantee of being free from corruption for all time.
