The region of Agfhanistan, parts of Punjab, Sindh and Bangladesh and even Maldives except for Kashmir were all Buddhist Dominated religions. The buddhists were the ones who were converted first, The hindus were forcibly converted or they resisted and fought back and that is why there still existed s substantial hindu minority in these areas prior to independence from the British.
Take for example Ghazni in Afghanistan from where originates the hero for many of the Pakistanis. How did the people of Ghazni become Muslim? In 683 AD, Arab armies brought Islam to the area and attempted to conquer the capital of Ghazni but the local tribes fiercely resisted. Its resistance was so famed that Yaqub Saffari (840-879) from Zaranj made an example of Ghazni when he ranged the vast region conquering in the name of Islam. The city was completely destroyed by the Saffarids in 869. A substantial portion of the local population including Hindus and Buddhists were converted to Islam (Source Wiki). So in one way, the arrival of the muslims extinguished any idealogical comptition between the Hindus and Buddhists more than the hindus managed to do .
Banning of Sati is not a new idea created by the muslim rulers. The vedas had a ban against it a longer time ago. Actually according to the wiki,"the practice of Sati was revived most notably during the muslim invasions ofIndia". The same is true of Jauhar in the Rajputs. Because the muslims did not treat with honour the women of the defeated and took them as slaves and war booty unlike the hindu kings the practice of Jauhar was started. There was no Jauhar when 2 hindu kings fought each other.The practice of Sati was banned ultimately because of reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy ith the help of viceroys. Maybe some of the muslim rulers tried to ban it but that was not a new or innovative idea and the practice of Sati was in one way linked to their rule. In this way this was one of the non-benefits of Muslim invasions = The status of women took a nose dive. I would really love to hear some innovative benefits , achievement and ideas during the Muslim rule that was newly inspired and did not exist before. I do agree that overall attitude of Indian society towards advancement and new technologies was not satisfactory and Muslim rulers (particularly Mughals) towards new technology lacked interest. Like first publishing press was introduced by Portuguese in 16th century and when Akbar saw books from the press, he didn't approve that by saying that it lacks beauty as compared to hand-written (calligraphy) books and if he allowed press many people who are earning from manual writing of books would lose their income source.
Humayun was interested in astronomy, but that was more limited to shagun / abh shagun type issues than using that for say finding new sea routes.

Nope. The bad practise of Sati existed before the muslim invasions but it was very localized and not a regularly practised social custom. The origin of Sati was anumarana and was not specific to the widow and practices like that existed all over the ancient world as I had said in one post.During the Islamic conquest of Indian subcontinent, sati practice increased exponentially, as rapes and abductions were commonly carried out by the Islamic invaders Sati was more common among the Kshatriya or warrior class women. Even later day smritis and puranas like the Padma purana forbids a Brahmin woman from performing Sati. Sati was also rare and almost unheard of in lower caste and tribal women. On the other hand Jauhar was invented solely due to dishonour of women at the hands of muslim invaders . This was a relatively new custom since enslavement of women as warbooty and slaves did not exist before the coming of muslims. Women of the vanquished were supposed to be treated with utmost respect . This is why Jauhar only happened when battles took place between muslims and hindus and not between hindus. Like I said, the already questionable status of women nosedived when muslims invaded India.
Any contacts between civilizations can be beneficial. But to say a conquest was a blessing is stretching the truth too far. The indian civilization was far superior than the muslim civilization that conquered in most thing except maybe barbarism. So Indians did not gain much intellectually and lost a lot socially and economically. But there was also a birth of a new culture and some enrichment of existing cultures

Sati or Satee was present and despite Muslim rulers tried their best to abolish this, it was continued and British had to make the law against it again by 1829. And prior to that, three Mughal Emperors also made it outlawed.

Please acknowledge that the crime against women and females still is very much the part of Indian society and female infanticied has taken thousands of lives in India despite the era **is well AFTER Muslim rule.
