It is quite possible, if India was not invaded by Muslims, it would have been powerful enough to coup with British colonialism. May be, just a thought.

Portuguese invasion of parts of India was pretty independent of any of the rulers of India at that time. That part of history would remain unaffected even if Muslims were not part of the equation.
