Gyro Sauceq

I need a recipe for the white sauce used on gyros.
Thank you!

PS preferably one that you’ve tried.

tzatziki or Tahini? both are used in diff places.

Either or both please.

tztaziki

1 pt plain yogurt (make sure its greek yogurt.. a lil diff from yer regular yogurt)
1 unpeeled cucumber, chopped -fine
1 clove garlic, crushed or can use garlic paste one teaspoon
half cup olive oil
Juice of half lemon (lime for a slightly diff taste)
1 teaspoon salt
dash of parsley

Mix cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt into yogurt. Blend well with fork..dont use a blender ..or if u must make sure it does not make it into a paste :). sprinke parsely on top

tahini, i dunno about. will ask begum

Merci!

Is this the same white sauce that's used on Afghani food?

Where can u buy greek yoghurt from btw? Will sour cream work? Vaisay Ranch Dressing tastes yum in these sandwiches too :yummy:

atleast in US an avg grocery store may or may not carry it, I usually go to the more ethnic type stores to get such stuff. sour cream will not work, we tried it. arabic stores have something called labna which is similar but a bit too thick and a diff taste

Muniya

how did the tzatziki work out?

I havent made it yet.

^ nikami aurat

^:hehe:
now you sound like my ammi jaani

he sounds like many others' ammi jaanis too

^ why? did yer mum call u a nikami aurat?

I wish she did. It would be a compliment.

humm there is something called butter milk (basically taste like lassi) available by milk section in normal grocery stores and my parents told me it taste like labna i don't know if that will work out or not?

sweet sonia, butter milk is too liquidy and labna is too thick and has a diff flavour. You can find greek yogurt at most ethnic supermarkets, or better yet just go to a greek or turk store.

I cant find the greek yogurt...

I think this is what you were after......

Blend together 2 meduim peeled onions, 2 cups of plain yogurt, dash of lemon juice, pinch each of sugar, blacl pepper, ground cumin seeds, ground coriander seeds and some fresh garlic and ginger. Blend till smooth then heat gently in a pan untill it comes up to simmering point and is thickened slightly.
