Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

Go to my local gym, 3-5 times a week. If I don't go for a week I feel fat and slobby and even when i'm ill i force myself to go. I do 30 mins on rower, 30 mins on treadmill and 30 mins on cross trainer then i do some crunches. Everyone is doing their own thing, nobody checks what other people are up to. Most of the people are concentrating on their own workouts and like me have headfones on so they can concentrate on their workout.

It is an excellent place to go as just simple dieting does not give you and hourglass figure, or burn flab, and especially women who put weight on easily its awesome to maintain your weight and increase your metabolism. It is not behaya because if your covered then it should not be a problem, unless you are wearing tight or revealing clothing. I personally wear loose jogging bottoms and a loose long sleeved top with trainers. When its cold i wear a fleece or jogging top on top also.

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

Please Read My Post Kaleem, That Was Two Barriers I Had To Cross!

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

My parents are like Catwoman's, health nuts, they want us to excercise and play sports. Of course, I don't go to the gym (too lazy), my sister does though, to the university one (it's free). I don't know what she wears. No, I don't think it's immoral or bad yada yada.

The times I have gone to the gym or for a walk/jog, I've worn those 3/4 things and a t-shirt. If I can somehow GAIN weight at the gym, please let me know!

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

^^ heavy workouts usually come with increased muscle weight gain..

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

Not muscles.

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

Hey what are some of the gyms in Pak like? I mean teh environment n stuff... ?

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

I run outdoors. I dont see the point of standing around in one spot running like a gerbil in a wheel.

My mum joined before me and noone has any problem with it. Everyone is all sweaty/ikhy at the gym so what a rubbish place to check out potentials.

Morality comes from within imo and my mum wears joggers a tee and trainers, as do I.

Cosmic bowling..yes! I’m there.

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

as hiccy said people are too busy in their own stuff.. so its not THAT big of a concern..

my desi gym partners wear loose bottoms, sweat-undershirt and cover the top with a loose tshirt or a sports-huddy... 1 of them happens to be a mother of one 3 year old.. we have a daycare center for those who have busy lifestyles and they can only workout if they bring the kids WITH them..so she leaves her kid over there and comes on the floor, cameras are everywhere where u can see daycare's inside..

her husband comes regularly and joins us..doesnt think its bad influence, infact her kid is taking interest in this and watching her food-habits as well... "wanna be like mommy" is her motto :-)

i hope this answered everything u asked for ..

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

  1. yeah i use my college gym. i get to use the pool, gym, sauna, tennis court all for $30 a month!
  2. I wear a T shirt and sweatpants.
  3. nah! nobody cares seriously, they are all busy doing their own thing. even most desi guys at our gym are cool. not the Staring type. thats another reason i prefer to be around the college crowd, people i know...as far as gyms are concerned... and if u think its immoral, u can always work out at home, buy a treadmill etc etc.

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

^^ You cannot swim in a sweatpant and tshirt can you? :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

^^ nope. can u?

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

  1. Do you, as a woman, go to the gym - like a commercial gym (or some high class ritzy gym for those of you with money trees)?
I used to. It was a college gym

  2. If you do go, what do you wear? Given that you’ve still got to be that holy muslimah :clown:
    ts n sweats

  3. If you don’t go, then WHY do you not go?
I get bored alone, if someone went with me, i’d go. I know im wierd

  4. Do you think its an inappropriate or immoral environment for a woman to be in? Does it make for a bad influence, that is the environment? (We all know, hopefully, that there is nothing wrong in exercising) No its not and people really dont care, men n women are too busy working on their own body to notice anything else.

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

My other half goes to a female only gym, she's not a hijabi but she covers everything with loose clothing except her head and hands, she's going to adopt the scarf soon.

I think men or women who go to mixed gender gyms have no dignity.

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

Well then there goes your whole modesty argument (if you are “modest” in the 1st place?).

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

sad but true. :frowning:

Re: Gyms: Breaking the Barriers

hmmmm I am surprised so many people here think its wrong to be in a mixed gym but its ok to work/study in a mixed enviroment
