Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

My little one loves Ballet and gymnastics… we tried both classes and I wanted her to stick to one, two were draining for me in terms of energy (driving her and waiting for her outside) and money. Asked her to pick one and she said Gymnastics :aisha:

I wanted to know if anyone has had their kids enrolled in gymnastics, does it have any benefits in the long-term, as opposed to free play in the park?

Actually, I’m trying to determine if its worth spending so much money on structured gymnastics classes or not?

Re: Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

my husband's niece did gymnastics. i think it was a way for her to keep fit and have fun in a group setting- i don't know if her parents enrolled her with any other goals in mind though. i suppose along the way it teaches them discipline, team playing, and of course, gymnastics?

Re: Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

This is my tragic ballerina story: When I was 6 my parents asked if I wanted to take ballet classes. But I wanted to take "Little Feet Aerobics" because their instructors would come to the cafeteria and dance around and it seemed like so much fun. So I convinced my parents to let me do that instead and it was just for one term. And to think, I could have been a ballerina! Alas!

Re: Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

My mother forced me to go to ballet. I got kicked out after a couple of classes for misbehaving. :bummer:

Re: Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

I wanted to be a ballerina at age 6 but they said I was too fat for it. :(

^awwww.

haha, NO WAY… really? You must have been a terror if you got kicked out :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re kidding, right?

Re: Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

sadly no.

Re: Gymnastics/Ballet classes for little girls

sara.. that is sad and rude of them... if it were just a hobby club sorta thing.... if it were those classes for girls who wanna take up ballet seriously, then they werent wrong.

the process of qualifying to be a ballerina is very very tough and the ppl picking girls out are very very choosy.. the number one thing they HAVE to be is thin... which is justifiable by the way they have to move around the dance floor. same with gymnastics i guess..

i did ballet for just one term and hated it.. my mom just wanted to see me in a bubblegum pink tutu with those ballerina shoes.... i found it very slow and so blah. gymnastics was way way more fast and quick movement based... ure girl is smart :D and yes its way better than free play in teh park...

she learns how her body functions and how flexible she can be if she wants, become a team player, and hey.. bottom line, she wants this so why not ...
