A better question may be, what do you do, once you are in the gym, to make sure you do not strain your muscles too much.
Yeah I was going to start a similiar thread, I finally got a membership to a local gym, I was also wondering what part of body should I workout each day.
I assume for upper body its Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and for lower is Tuesday and Thursday.
i would say go to the gym for a couple or preferably 3 weeks weeks 4-5 times a week just so that ur body get used to the training, after that there is only one advice and that is *set urself Goals!!!!! * this is the key. once u know what shape u want to get into, i mean do u want ur upper body to look better, want to gain muscle or want to lose fat. and then modify ur workout according to that.
if there is any exercise in gym that u are not sure about how to do, always ask the people who are in the gym and they can guide u. i found most of the people very helpful in that regard. But as i said the main thing is *set urself Goals!!!!! *
Umair ur routine looks good as long as u can continue with it
My suggestion for ladies is to concentrate more on the Aerobic exercise.
Always pick out light wieghts and do more reps of it. Light weight and more reps helps you to tone the body. For example, for the bicepts pick the lightest weight like 5 pounds or 10 and make sure you do 3 sets of 10-15 reps.Average routine is 3 times per week.
Umair, your routine looks fine but working out each day can be tough. You can pick two different muscles each day. like Chest and bicepts on monday. Tricepts and shoulders on WEdnesday. Back and legs on Firdays. That leaves Tuesday and Thursday for the 20-30 minutes of Aerobic excercise.
Keep in mind.you should maintain a very strict diet. I'm assuming you want to grow bigger apart from strenth excercise you need to have healthy meals along with protein shakes. Many experts believe that even eating 4-6 meals a day will expedite your muscle growth. When they say 4-6 meals a day it doesnt mean have a whopper combo each time. Eat in small portions.
I seriously recommend you to get the book "body for life" from amazon, borders barnes and noble etc...It has an amazing plan with facts about work out.It also gives the recipe for six meal plans :)I have read many books but this one stands out.
goodluck and stay motivated!
OK folks,
I got that book body for life. Its pretty good. Anyway,
The first question is how fit are you? have you ever stepped in a gym?
If not 2 -3 times a week is a good starting point, Mix cardio with weights, you will burn more calories that way and you will speed up your metabolic rate, Women should do weights too, they wont increase their muscles drastically because they cant genetically. Unless you rely on the old steroids.
Anyway make sure you have a good diet too. Cut out roti's and curries totally.
The only strain I get is in my eyes while paddling the stationary bicycle behind the glass-walled aerobics room. ![]()

Well you can go to the gym as many times as you want too .. .no one will stop you if you are paying your dues …
Type of workout/stamina/ your level (beginner/intermediate/advance) will determine the pleasure of you visiting your local gym …
Obviously intermediate and advance level dude and dudets will not be looking answers from ‘mad’ people …
For beginners 3 days are recommended … every day you will hit a major muscle group the next day you will rest … so you will have a cycle of six days … do arms & chest the first day … shoulder and back … legs & (shoulder or chest which ever you feel needs more work) .. keep your routine for 6-8 weeks and switch and mix and match i.e. shoulders with arms … and do sit-ups for 5 days and rest for 2 .. there are plenty of workout routines out there that will whip your buttocks but the key is keeping up with your routine and finding the best workout that works for you … I always switch my workout from intense to strength to aerobic to anaerobic all the time …that keeps me motivated ..

I am really curious about your "Golas*". What are they? Are they similar to "Gola Ganda" I used to love as a kid or is it some other kind of "Golas*"? Thanks in advance.
Thanks Sherrybaba and Rooster-Blues, I know it sounds a little silly for guy but I have been gaining some weight over my thigh areas, what exercises do you guys recommend for me to do?
Rightnow for the first week I am just running 2 - 2 1/2 miles every day, and doing some crunches, situps, not so heavy workout for the first week, then I will start next monday on the workout routine that some of you guys mentioned.
