When visiting India or Pakistan why do you see so many Indian and pakistani guys always hold hands while walking together? Is it bromance? Are Indian men physically close because they can or because they must?
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
I have witnessed this too and found it very irritating. Apparently it's a sign of friendship and not romantic. I still find it gross.
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
Because homosexuality is not that common in india that some one will suspect you of being homosexual....
When some on hold hands or put hand around other persons shoulder he is just being friendly.............:)
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
Is it because how sexually repressed the society has become. It is good that men can hold hands unlike in Western countries, Are Westerners too homophobic to not like it?
Though men are often seen being physically affectionate, you never see couples holding hands or lovers locked in a park bench embrace. In public buses, passengers shift seats so a man and a woman who don’t know each other don’t end up sitting together.
Public kisses have been known to spark riots, and every Indian film is censored to avoid any suggestion of normal sexuality.
In the country that wrote the Kama Sutra, heterosexual intimacy is strictly a private affair, and only accepted in the confines of an arranged marriage.
Do Indian men hold hands in public because they have no other choice?

Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
I was just thinking to start a thread on this topic.
I think every culture got different criteria and signs for judging personality. It is considered gross when we see people from opposite sex in west (and some so called liberals) shaking hands. But that doesn’t mean that they are sexually involved. Same goes true for two guys holding hands in desi culture

Ninja are you sure about the statement in bold? There are some areas (towns) and races in Pakistan (don't want to mention names), which are infamous for this act? Remember, we had a thread on Urdu poets whose poetry suspects their involvement in such activities :D

Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
got your point.
Did you ever feel gross, when Arab guys touches cheeks of each other and make sound of kiss ![]()
BTW I just read a phrase in some of GS threads ‘being chummy’ ![]()
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
I found that very strange before having lived in Dubai myself. Now I don’t find it THAT strange. It’s like our “galle milna” for them.
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture

As Freud said Innate bisexuality , humans are born bisexual but through psychological development (which includes both external and internal factors) become monosexual while the bisexuality remains in a latent state. Very few are 100% straight or 100% homosexual.
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
Do you mean that in societies, where men and women are kept separate, homosexuality is promoted in a way?
Re: Guys holding hands is accepted in Indian and Pakistani culture
its called male bonding which is very strong in old cultures. People feel more comfortable being touched by same gender person in older countries.
things were different for me too before i came to usa, now i feel more comfortable in getting "felt" by a female doctor than a male one. and all that is in non sexual way.

Because of the 'yaari' traditions in India and other Asian cultures, strong male bonding and intimacy (supposedly sexless) are not taboo, unlike the U.S. and other Anglo-Saxon dominant cultures
Modern Indian society is just as narrow-minded and un-accepting of differences as traditional Christian or Islamic societies. People talk about the **KamaSutra **and its celebration of sexuality but how celebratory of sexual expression mainstream Hindu cultures were in the past is anybody's guess. It would be simplistic to put this denial of sexual expression down to Victorian mores.
Movies like Namak Haraam and Anand where there is strong Male Bonding and Bromance be accepted in Western society
