Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...
Maklawa/Chauthi/Challa are the same thing, right?
I don't know if it's a tradition for the guy to stay over. But it definitely happens. My brother stayed at his inlaws with his wife for the days following the valima.
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...
The tradition might vary in different families. In our family, yes the bride and groom return to the girl's parent's house after the walima.Stay overnight and leave the next day when some family members from the groom's side come to pick them up.It is called the muklava.Although we had one when we got married,my sister had one and everyone else in my family does too,I see no logic and reason for this rasam.
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...
v have muqlawa the brides go back but groom doesnot he comes next day to pick bride along wth his family i personlaly dont like it whts the point when there is barat y groom comes again 2 pick her

Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...
I think we call it a chauthi.
There's a dinner but no overnight staying of any sort.

well from valima, the couple goes over to the bride's home and they stay over there for a day or tonite but it varies from individual to individual. Sometimes the couple may stay, sometimes only the bride but i believe nowadays mostly neither stay lol or atleast from what i have seen around it seems that way.
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...
Chauti and chaala are the same. Muqlava is something totally diff (usually practiced in punjabo culture).
Chauti ot chaala is a dinner the bride's family throw for the groom's in the beginning dsys right after the valima... No staying over at all.
In muqlava...the guy stays over... Though this is dying out now....
All of this should just stop happening... We got so sick and tired of all the dawats... Not to mention the time groom and bride could be using on each other...they are stuck eating the same food choices from the wedding...not to mention allllll the other dawats that have and will be happening.....
And what a waste of money! Too much of anythingis soooo not good!
Brides family have done a sinner (barat)... Guy's family have done a dinner too (valima).
Done son!

God how i hate my ipad!
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls’ house after valima day…
the way my cousin explained it to me:
“baraat pe hum larki ko ghar leke jatay hain
valima pe larki ke maa-baap larki aur larka ko vapis le ke jatay hain
muklawa pe hum larki or larka ko vapis leke atay hain hamaray ghar”
(we were 11 ok
)
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...
ok...so let me get this straight..
valima day----- daawat some day following = chauthi/chautha
valima day-----girl moves back to parents.........the goes to pick her up (stays the night or not depending on family) = maqlava
??
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls' house after valima day...

Re: Guy staying overnight at girls’ house after valima day…
wow i must be the only person who has never heard of this before…but then again…my nani doest believe in any of these rasams anyway! ![]()
what happens if you get married abroad?
Re: Guy staying overnight at girls’ house after valima day…
No, you’re not the only one…I’ve never heard of “muklawa” either..It’s definately not a hyderabadi riwaaj…
The only thing we do after waleema is the “chauti” which is the next day when bride is brought back to her parents home in the morning, and then groom/inlaws come for dinner and some masti/tricks are played on groom (like feeding him a gulab jamun with mirchi inside) ![]()
