Gupshup Radio

Okay another whacky idea from district dadu.

Since GS already has a large selection of audio files accumulated we can somehow make a jukebox out of them.

In the ideal Gupshup Radio there would be a screen, maye a popup, where we can view the current track playing and the queue of tracks coming up. Gupshup users can request random tracks, from some sort of a directory service which lists the available tracks, which then enqueues them in the player. Maybe the popup can show which user requested which song.

To avoid mass enqueuing there could be limits like max 3 requests per user per hour. If there are no requests, the player would randomly select an audio file and play it.

The player can be ‘read only’ i.e. users should only hear whatever is streaming at that instant. For the actual playback, i guess winamp or realmedia can both play streaming mp3 files.

I’m not sure how hard or simple the programming for this prospect could be but it would be really interesting to see something like that. (Do i hear a groan already? ). Inbetween every 3-4 songs we can maybe slip in important announcements from the GS staff, GS news, updates, changes etc.

Even if not, i think it was still worth opening a thread over.
