Gupshup Opinions: Are we the Muslims oppressed?

By Mirch

My observations are that we are victims of self pity. We have nostalgia about a very glorious and distant past. The main difference between the ones who are progressing and those who are not anymore, is like this:

Anything which happens to us is because someone is our enemy, someone is oppressing us or there is a global conspiracy against us. We have no control on our fate others are so powerful that they just do whatever they want to do to us and we cannot change it all – ( it is all my sarcasm not my philosophy)

At certain point in history we stopped realizing problems as problems and stopped looking for solutions. Someone instilled this philosophy in our minds that whatever happens is Allah’s will, so be a Sabir and Shakir Momin and have faith in Allah . Allah ( Subanahu Taala ) will have mercy and resolve our issues. We stopped doing research to resolve the issues and solve the problems. So all the major scientific discoveries, inventions and technological advances in recent history go to the credit of non-Muslims. Just name any one of the modern inventions and discoveries which have a Muslim name attached to it.

There are those in our midst who believe and force me to believe that man never landed on the moon. It is all a hoax and Discovery Channel has all the proofs to disprove a legitimate moon landing. Allah will never let that happen. I know I am going to hear a lot of boos.

I have read myself articles in prominent magazines back home which tried to prove that , rocket and air plane were invented by Muslims. Due to a big conspiracy non-Muslims are taking credit for these inventions. I do not know where they got their facts from because those articles did not contain any references or bibliography. The other day someone was telling during a khutbah that America was discovered by Muslim traders long before Columbus, there is a proof of this in a German/Italian library. and again due to a big conspiracy Columbus is credited with this discovery.

The khateebs at every masjid every Friday spend all their energy to make sure that we do not leave guilt free, They make sure that we should have shame and be depressed about being not an ideal Muslim. I would love if some psychiatrist and/or psychologist does some research on the impact of those depressing khutbas. If I take every word of those khateebs as it is I would have no hope for me on the judgement day, I will have no faith in Allah (SWT) being Rehman and Raheem.(Naoozo billah)

The other day a khateeb was spending his energies in telling the congregation at my Masjid that we all are spending all of our energies on Dunia and have forgotten the Akhrah. We should not worry about the Dunia at all. But I know that this particular khateeb has a thriving business and Mashallah doing very well . Now I do not know if angels are running his business or he puts his utmost energies to run that business. He is in a very competitive market with cut throat competition.( I am not in the same business but a very dear friend of mine is and another acquaintance of mine had to close his business and go look for a job ).

Why can’t we work hard to better our Dunia and in turn use this success in Dunia to better our Akhrah ? How is it possible that we can better our Akhrah without the betterment of our Dunia ? After every Namaz/Salat we recite a Duaa taught to us by Allah where we ask for betterment of our Dunia first and then for betterment of Akrah.

" Rabbana Aitana fee Dunia Hazantun wa fil Akhratay Hasanatun". This is the teaching of our Allah to ask for betterment of our Dunia first , but day and night all the khateebs tell us the opposite and condemn our efforts for the betterment of our Dunia.

So my conclusion is that we are being oppressed by our own ulema’s and khateebs. They have been instilling a very wrong philosophy for ages which even goes against the real Islamic teachings. This philosophy has resulted in our downfall and will result in our doom-- if we still do not change our way of thinking.

Re: Gupshup Opinions: Are we the Muslims oppressed?

I was having the same discussion with my family over the weekend as to how the Muslims keeps blaming others for that state we're in and never look at their own faults. It's been true since the beginning of human history that no one has ever respected a nation just because they belonged to a certain religion. When Muslims were respected, they were not respected because of their religion. They were respected due to their economic and military strength, but this is something all Muslim nations seem to have forgotten!

Allama Iqbal has said it best in Jawab-e-Shikwa (I believe this poem is a must read for every Muslim):

Safha-e-Dehr say baatil ko mitaya kis nay?
No-e-Insaani ko ghulami say churaya kis nay?
Meray kaabay ko jabeeno say basaya kis nay?
Meray Quran ko seeno say lagaya kis nay?
Thay to aaba wo tumharay hi, par tum kia ho?
*Haath par haath dharay muntazir-e-farda ho! *

Re: Gupshup Opinions: Are we the Muslims oppressed?

^^ Exactly. A person should be known for his good deeds and not for which religion he follows.

Chintoo baboo read the article to make an intelligent comment. I respect you and expect better comments from you.
The article is self criticism not an endorsement of the popular belief of Muslim oppression by others.

:salam:

Br. Mirch, I absolutely echo your thoughts. This battle is raging at our levels in our daily lives. For instance, in my own masjid, the religious camp of people tend to gravitate every event towards a religious epicenter and the other camp towards total party bash. What I have questioned many a time is that the only reason we should step into our community centers should not be only confined to religion. Other social activities that are part of our normal lives should be promoted in our centers. Many think solely remembrance of Allah SWT and Akhirah is the solution to all problems and TawakultuAllallah.

Re: Gupshup Opinions: Are we the Muslims oppressed?

Are muslims oppressed? Nope. Are aspects of Muslim society subjugated by others? Absolutely. Anybody who doesn't see that is blind as a bat. But then again its en vogue to blame Muslims for everything, and why won't our more weak-minded Muslims fall for such stupidity. After all we are to blame for our own actions :)

Re: Gupshup Opinions: Are we the Muslims oppressed?

There are oppressors and oppressed everywhere, not just muslims.

The reason for the lousy state muslims are in is little to do with external or self oppression.

Too many have gotten radical and hate filled.
