I really am concerned about the future of further lipomas :frowning:

Re: Gupshup Docs: Lipomas

I'm not a doc. But lipomas are common in my family. My mom has a few of them but only had one of them removed - it was getting too large and starting to grow between ribs so her doc wanted that one out. The others, her doc told her that they dont need to be removed unless they bother her, that they're harmless. I have one on my back and my doc told me the same thing - that its harmless and doesnt have to be removed except for cosmetic reasons or if it gets bothersome.

ok, thanks for the info..
i had one on my shoulder which was small and so i decided not to have an op......after 4 months it was the size of a tennis ball, so had to have it removed. When it was removed it weighed 80g!

Thats why im concerned...I dont want this to be increasing...but its good to know that it can be ignored unless it causes any problems...Thanks

Re: Gupshup Docs: Lipomas

***Lipomas are benign ,usually painless growths of fat cells. The cause is poorly understood but it is thought to be inheritable and runs in families. Some theories suggest minor trauma or injury .
You do not necessarily need to have it removed unless it is for cosmetic reasons or they are growing too big > 5cm or becoming painful if it compresses a nerve .

The doctors may suggest a biopsy if your worried but if its in an accessible region this might be an excison biopsy where they can have it removed en masse under a local anaesthetic .
Sometimes recurrence in the same place does occur if it is incompletely removed and the margins were left behind.

Re: Gupshup Docs: Lipomas

have u thought of alternative med. homeopathy is very gud specially for such lumps. i know a gud homeopath lady in islamabad if u are interestd.

So has anyone had one and has it disappeared itself? My doc has suggested its a gd idea 2 leave it unless it increases in size or causes pain..he also said it may go away itself..which im hoping for..

its always on my mind and now i keep thinking I have more..I hate this :(
