**Gunmen have killed five Iraqi soldiers at a checkpoint in south Baghdad.**The soldiers were manning a checkpoint in the suburb of Radwaniya, a Sunni neighbourhood close to the airport, when they were attacked.
Some 17 people were arrested by security services who closed off the area immediately after the attack.
Violence has dropped dramatically in Iraq from its peak between 2005 and 2007, but police and soldiers are still frequently attacked.
Iraq is still waiting for the results of its general election held almost two weeks ago.
The indication is a very close poll and candidates have called for some areas to be recounted, which the election regulators have rejected.
