Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

At first people thought it was some sort of publicity stunt

Aspiring TV presenter Jessica Ghawi among 12 killed

Shooting victim tweeted moments before death

http://www.hlntv.com/article/2012/07/20/jessica-redfield-colorado-massacre-victim

“I was shown how fragile life was on Saturday. I saw the terror on bystanders’ faces. I saw the victims of a senseless crime. I saw lives change. I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath.”
“I say all the time that every moment we have to live our life is a blessing. So often I have found myself taking it for granted. Every hug from a family member. Every laugh we share with friends. Even the times of solitude are all blessings. Every second of every day is a gift. After Saturday evening, I know I truly understand how blessed I am for each second I am given.”

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

This was horrrible news. How depressing............

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

Terrible incident, for his one single life he put hundreds in missery what a loser YET gain nothing.

Its sickening & sad. Among the 12 deceased there is a six years old girl as well. That little angel's mother is lying in hospital paralyzed.

This happened only 20 mi away from where we live. I was at the same theatre last year to watch a movie. Seeing it happening so close just gives me the shivers.

I know three different families whose children would have been at this midnight show if it wasn't for the fact that Ramadan had officially started here in CO.

And to the person who said only in US. Don't forget we have people in Pakistan who have done the same horrific crime in Jummah prayers, outside schools, even at funerals.

I have a feeling that despite we have advanced a lot technologically, soon we will consider our parents lucky for the times they lived in & Allah only help our future generations.

Hope this asswipe gets the death penalty for the grief he has caused to the Aurorans & Coloradoans.

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

Feel sympathy for the victims they are innocent ordinary citizens.

On a bigger picture in the land of the gun when the nation is born out of violence and the native population is wiped out violence is a daily reality for Americans. Guns are sold like sweets to even mentally disturbed people.

You have shootouts in schools, offices and in this case a cinema the logical solution to this problem is gun control, but with a gun lobby like the NRA who fund many politicians money talks and peoples safety can walk!

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

Mosque killings (or any killing of innocent people) are surely despicable acts but incidents such as this where a lone gunman runs amok, I have only seen happen in America, Ireland (Dunblane school massacre) etc. more recently that Norwegian nutcase (Anders Breivik) who donned a police officer's uniform to trick people before massacring 67 Norwegians on Utoya island.

And you have to say that school shootings are far more frequent in America than in other countries, although terrible massacres have occurred in Russia, Israel, and several European nations.

In London there are many stabbing incidents involving teenagers, something that doesn't happen in most other countries

^ And your point is?

^ If this were the Bush Years the media would be claiming it was al Qaeda.

Waleed within hours of this horrific incident some official released a statement saying "At the moment we don't think this is related to terrorism"

Its sad that some people have a very screwed up perception of what terrorism is.

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

America leads the world in school shootings. I see it as a society defect

There is no single, certain answer but possible factors include failure by classmates, parents and school officials to see the warning signs - bullying and revenge, serious mental illness (America does have more major mental illness ((esp. schizophrenia) than most other countries)), violent role models, drugs (drug culture and aspects of this problem are more severe in the US than in many other parts of the world), access to guns, and a culture that condones extremism

The reason American has a school shooting problem that exceeds other nations has to do with access to loaded weapons by kids who should not have that access

Current adminstration is no different than the past one.

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

You know and I know it too if this guy was a muslim.....This act would have been called Terrorisim........If This was not Terrorism God Knows What it was

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

So shocking. It's like I have to be careful from now on. :( Watching movie at cinema is my hobby, one of the place where we all mates like to go.

Agreed for the most bit.

Not all but many other countries have these issues as well. Difference is US being the third largest populated country on earth, where almost every single crime goes on record, numbers are obviously higher.

Bying 6000 rounds of ammunition online within just 6 months should have triggered some sort of alert, which it didn’t.

Gun laws is what this country definitely needs to work on. How did this guy slipped through the cracks is beyond my underdtanding.

Waleed hence my post for you. Not just that, if he was Black (African American) he would have been called a violent gang member, if Hispanic then some Illegal immigrant with ties to drug cartels.

My last sentence was meant for the statement released.

So shocking. It’s like I have to be careful from now on. :frowning: Watching movie at cinema is my hobby, one of the place where we all mates like to go.

Its sad that no place is safe. And if you look at a picture released of the shooter, he looks like another ordinary person on the block. Its a sorry world we are living in.

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

While it is so sad and my heart goes out to all the grieving families...

I wonder...

the shooter has no link with Pakistan as we speak? Someone might be saying while going to Japan or Australia, he once flew over Pakistan, hence this... :( Or maybe his undershirt was produced in Pakistan... goddamnit...there has to be something...

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

John Allen Muhammad (the Washington sniper, black) wasn't called a terrorist or gang member, was he? Timothy McVeigh (white) obviously** was**..

Don't know why some ppl are tying themselves in knots over why this guy James Holmes is not being called a terrorist.. is being 'just' a killer/murderer somehow better?? What separates a terrorist from a 'normal' killer is the REASON why they commit the act..

Regardless of what the reasons were what happened in Denver is awful.. I feel so bad for the victims, esp the children, and their families..

Re: Gun attack at Batman film premiere in Denver

If he was muslim everybody would have been waving the terrorist flag. But as we all know you can only be muslim to be a terrorist. What makes this case any different from the norway one?? The double standards makes my blood boil. Really does.....
Deeba its not that being a killer or whatever is better. Its the stigma thats attached to the "terrorism" label that makes it worse. The media has made terrorism a worse trait. Think about it. When you hear of a murder on the news, you dont bat an eyelid or at least make much of it. Not in the way you would if there was a case of terrorism in the news. Then you would actually stop, pay attention and listen. Thats why you (not you personally but just people in general) subconsciously believe terrorism is worse.
